80G Planet Aquarium Rimless Tank

[Francis]

After closing my 140G rimless tank and selling it due to a house move. I'm slowly getting situated in working on my next aquarium setup. I have a 90G rimless cube but it didn't work in the space I have now so I went and ordered a 80G Rimless Tank from Planet Aquarium via Salty Fish.

It's been sitting empty for over a month as I'm still working on the stand plus waiting on the new release shadow ghost overflow. My new tank came with the ghost overflow but I can't seem to resist the sexy new overflow from Synergy so I'm waiting on it. It'll give me time to work on the rest of the details of my stand and other equipment.

I kept most of my old equipment so I'm pretty much ready to start again. My corals are also being kept in a few tanks so I should have more than enough corals to start with.

It's getting there! Added padding for the tank and sump area. Test fit sump so I can start routing the plumbing.

Got almost all the plumbing I need. Just waiting on the Shadow Overflow. I'll be doing some pre plumbing work in the next couple of days and doing inventory of my reef equipment.

Finished the return plumbing. Still waiting on the shadow overflow so I can finalize the drain plumbing. The sump lip was to thick for my reactor brackets so I made a cradle to make it work. The install looks clean and more organize than what I was expecting.

Added a wall cabinet for all my aquarium stuff. Also painted a petco metal stand that I bought off Craigslist which will be used for my 20G long frag tank.

Thanks! Since I cured my rocks ahead of time, my tank is about completely cycled. I've been dosing ammonia to produce 1ppm in my system. So far after about 24 hrs the reading goes down to 0. I'm going to do this a couple times more just to be sure. Also been adding microbacter to help out. Still have to program my Apex as I wiped out everything to start over. Still have a few probes that needs to be calibrated.
So far I'm liking the bare bottom. I programmed my MPs to alternate different modes throughout the day and it seems that I have covered all the dead spots.

Beautiful Tank. I love montis and you have some great ones! I don't know if you are having a similar problem but I also have an APEX, Dos and CO2 scrubber. My tank is a lot smaller (40g) and I am noticing when my lime media is new or I leave town for the weekend, the pH goes up and I need to increase my 2-part dosing amounts. As the media gets more saturated and the pH starts to come down I need to decrease my 2-part. I am currently trying to figure out how to slightly change the daily dosing amount (2-6 ml/day) based on the previous days high/low pH range. My plan is to created virtual outlets (variables: low, medium, high) that will be turned on or off and in turn will determine the dosing amount for the day.

I had an issue in the beginning when the pH went up and I forgot to adjust my Ca reactor so my Alk was a little low but no harm done in my tank. Now my Ca reactor is adjusted in combination with my scrubber. My scrubber media lasted 3-4 weeks before I change it so far so good.

3-4 weeks seems good for the tank size. I get about 4 weeks using a TLF reactor. Are you getting your soda lime local?

I buy my soda lime online. It's $9 for a 3 lb bag that lasts me 3-4 weeks.

Thanks! Some of the corals were from my old tank.I just run a calcium reactor to supplement my elemental needs. I have Red Sea colors but I used it sparingly. Maybe I dosed it every two months. I established the dosing volume but I always forget to do it. Lol
