Ok, so my daughter discovered that our pair of clownfish have a batch of fry in the reef. She (and possibly my wife) are convinced we need to save them from becoming fish food.
Anyone ever raised clownfish fry?
If so, I would love some help/advice/etc.
TIA!

too late for this batch.. requires a lot of set up and preparation...and time.... and.. well... a lot easier than it used to be but you need to have everything prepped... there should be some good threads on here.. including an old on of mine

Hey Larry Reed Mariculture sells rotifers and Hanna at Coral Cove had some A. panamensis pods. The adults would be too large for newborn clown fish, however the newborn pods would make a very nutritious meal for newborn clowns. Do you have any kind of a nursery system set up? I have some old round tubs I use to use for seahorse fry and I would be glad to give you one. You would need a low flow system that you could plumb into your sump (not ideal but doable). Raising any larval species of fish is very labor intensive and usually takes a lot of trial and error. If you can catch them I could put some in one of my vacant nursery systems and see if I could raise some to a juvenile stage (no guarantee). If I was successful, they are yours. Trying to give these little guys a chance, even if they bite the hand that feeds them as adults.

I have a 10 gallon i may try to move the rock into. I need to get a low flow pump and some food first. Planning to run it separate rather than plumbed into the sump if we try it.

Sounds like a good plan. From the reading I have done it is best to keep them in total darkness for the first few days. You will need to carefully monitor your water parameters and remove any biofilm. I forgot who it was but one of our members has rotifers. Not a ideal food source, but it is better than nothing. They typically switch to none live food very readily. I do have some phyto paste I can give you to enrich the rotifers if need be.

Thanks leliataylor! I'll let you know how it goes if we decide to try this
