Quick updates after the holiday break.

1) Accidentally pointed my power head directly at my Oregon tort colony and blasted away a good section of flesh. [emoji30]

2) Came home to half my Mr. Pac man colony RTN'ing. My guess is it was probably caused by myself not acclimating it a bit more before moving it from really low par to medium par. [emoji22]

On the brighter side, rescued my Ruby Red Dragonet from the overflow.

Everything growing great in the tank. Even the fragged areas are healing super quick... Here is a week of heal time. [emoji33]

There's quite the waiting list already but happy to put you down. Got it straight from Elite Reefs when I was there in 2015 for a wedding. It splits about once every 9-12 months naturally. When it split naturally a month ago, I took out the parent and decided to frag it manually as well because the anemone had gotten huge so I wanted to trim it down in size.

Thanks Alton! I've been doing this for 12 years now and trust me, it was a long, hard road at times. I'm happy with the more recent successes but there were plenty of debacles before this that gave me some great "lessons learned".

If anything, its just a reminder for me to document the bad moments better... And not just the good moments to give a more realistic journey of the tank.

With an SPS-dominant tank, no issues so far. They may pick once in a blue moon on the acros but nothing that causes any harm. Now throw a zoa frag in there and it'll be like that one kid in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

That's a very good question that I hope to have an answer to soon. I'm buttering up the wife right not but the crankiness from being 8.5 months pregnant is hindering me a bit. ;)

I don't think I'll get my way of ordering an 8' tank, 30" deep, 30" tall, so the compromise is to use a 215 gallon tank I already have empty, rip out middle overflows, install ghost overflow, get a new steel stand built, powder coat it some ridiculous color to make me feel cool, and install it in the garage (new house has garage half converted) with the front of the tank in wall facing the dining/front living room area. I'll frame it like a picture window and add access for feeding and limited sump access as it will wholly be accessible from the garage side. I'll probably convert the half garage back to full on one side so the wife can park inside and use only 1/4 of the garage for a small fish room, install 2 dedicated breakers in it and two vents from the brand new AC unit into the fish room as well. I'll line the bottom of the room to be a catchall for spills.

I think thats a great compromise in my mind. :p

Its a really great setup so if you find one used, jump on it for sure.

I'm running the MTC Procal, hand made by a guy in New Jersey. This thing runs to perfection.

My regulator was one built by D2mini, popular guy on the national forums and Marsh in Houston.

I had the electronic regulator and it worked fantastic. My only complaint was the audible click and the fact that it was only 1-stage and not a dual stage regulator. The one I have now is solid, should last a lifetime.

The Geo would work perfectly so feel no need to replicate what I have. They do make a mini-cal model as well.

Lol yea he spilled the beans alright! Nah I'm sticking with my 190g so no upgrade tanks in the future. Just trying to better my tank and help my corals to be as healthy as possible. Never thought of the amount of media and ph adjustment if the reactor is larger than you need so that's good to know. Guess I'm going to need to do more research on reactors. Thanks for the help.

That's funny. I bought d2mini's old regulator last year that he built since he went full Triton and didn't need it anymore.

Humblefish was this close to renting my old house out when I move out of here but it's a little too far of a commute to his wife's work. I've got one of my leasing agents helping him find a home to rent in Austin right now. Hopefully he finds something he likes soon!

I'm alive! I promise! Tank is running, corals are growing, fish are swimming. Had some minor losses from the move but to be expected when moving a large established SPS tank.

I'll update soon I hope when the craziness dies down a bit.

Thank you! That's just how they were thrown in the tank when we moved everything. I put back together the right rock structure but I'm just waiting for time and inspiration to complete the aquascape. So, for now, its an unfinished project.

Thank you. From a coral perspective, it went very well. From a fish perspective, it wasn't as great but you take your victories where you can in this hobby.

The move was only 15 mins away but the corals were out of the water probably 1-2 hrs by the end of it. We had a large container that we used to dip and swish the corals in before placing them in the tank to do exactly as you mentioned, displace their protective slime coat.

Yeah, they have such dismal survival rates! I purchased a set from another reefer who has them growing nicely in his own tank so these have a history of success in a reef tank. I try to avoid wild colonies these days.

They are awesome because they offset the lack of motion from my acros and just whip in the current all day long.

Big week. After losing so many fish to velvet last month, my wonderful wife watched the little guy as much as she could to give me time to get the tank in order.

I hung mounts for the lighting, which I'll be using my old LED/T5 light combo that used to be on the main tank for the frag tank. After running it yesterday with just the Ocean Revive LEDs, I think I'll ditch the T5s for simplicity.

Randomly, my ATI fixture wouldn't fire up two bulbs. Whenever I tried to mess with the bulbs, smoke would start coming out of the fixture. I took it down and fortunately for me, my DIY retrofit T5 setup on the old light setup has ATI ballasts on it so it was a straight swap to get me back up and running.

Things I still need to do from this point:

-aquascape

-put all frags in frag tank

-add blue/black backdrop to tank so you can't see the room behind it.

I've just left things as they were since I moved because my time was limited and most pressing was to treat my fish and plumb*the frag tank so I had room to clear out the DT to make aquascaping easier.

Also, corals adjusting to the T5s now are starting to really regain color and look good again. *I think I'm liking going all T5.

It is unnatural as they are usually in harems. The other one may eventually turn male as well and then you have two males that will be very aggressive towards each other.

You can always look for ORA's Red goni... They have a great survival rate as well.
