I am getting ready to upgrade my aquarium and will have room for a clam. I will have Reefbreeders on the tank and wonder how deep I can put the clam. the tank is 36 inches deep. Also any opinions on the the type of clam to get?
Thanks,
Mike

I don't know a whole lot about the reef breeders but I think putting them on the sand bed may be pushing it. Try setting them on a rock on the lower portion and seeing if they will attach. I have three Maximas in my tank doing well nothing special except adding some phyto/ filter feeding food once a week. Dersa clams seem to be another good option some of our clients have them and from what I've seen they grow quite quickly.

I would also start with a Dersa clam.

Hi Mike,
Which optics and fixture will you be using?

There are 3 main types of Clams that are available to hobbyist. If I recall 2 of them like to be in the sand and one is a rock boring species. Here is a link I found on Clam care for you:

As long as you have enough light clams will do fine on the sand. Crocea and Maxima can attach to rock. Squamosa, Derassa and Gigas (impossible to get) need to be on the sand. If your light is not extremely bright I stick with Squamosa or Derassa. You can put Maxima or Crocea right under the light on the rock. So hight up you cannot see their color except from the top
