As many of you know, our second swap of the year is right around the corner, and with great pleasure, the MAAST board of directors would like to present for the first time in 5 years, the Lonestar Marine Aquarist Rally!

We have partnered up with the San Antonio Aquarium to bring to you one of the coolest events we've ever had! MAAST members will enjoy a private area for our event and FREE admission into the San Antonio Aquarium for their families!

Here's the schedule of events:

San Antonio Aquarium 6320 Bandera Rd, San Antonio, TX 78238

Saturday November 7th: 12-5PM vendor setup (no hobbyists will be allowed into the private area on Saturday)
Sunday November 8th: 10AM BOD/ Vendor arrival
12PM-5:30PM: LMAR
5:30PM Cleanup

Table fees are as follows:

Charter Member or Sponsor: Free
Non Charter Member or non Sponsor: $25.

Fees can be paid in advance via our paypal or snail mail.

i have to agree with this. I haven't been out to many events lately but when I did, I've won and gained knowledge that's well worth the small donation to become a member of a great group. I've saved more on discounts then what I've paid, and that's not counting the reef tester kit, apex, and frags on frags! It's a no brainer!

Alton, this time around there are no raffles for LMAR rather we have two sets of door prizes. The first set can be won by both web and charter members, and consists of items donated to us by the vendors, aquarium manufacturers, and national companies. The second set consists of prizes purchased by MAAST using the funds we get from charter member subscription fees. These are eligible to be won only by MAAST charter members who are present with a photo ID AND their non-expired membership card.

Admission to anyone and their guests who RSVP's by halloween will be free and covered by our agreement with the Aquariums owners. If a charter member fails to RSVP but would like to attend, you may be allowed in with your Photo ID and charter membership card for free, but will have to pay $15/ head for your guests. Web members who do not RSVP before halloween will have to pay $15 for themselves and for each guest. This fee covers a ticket to the aquarium and none of this admission charge goes to MAAST.

Admission will work as follows:

We will have either a small station outside the aquarium or at admissions roughly at 11:00AM. We would then have the list of RSVPS and will mark you off the list and give you a door prize raffle ticket when you enter with your photo ID and direct you to the swap room. If you are a charter member and have your charter membership card, you will recieve one door prize ticket, and a different colored charter member door prize ticket upon entering. The room itself will not open until 12:00PM so we ask that members who have gone through admissions look at the exhibits until 12.

Also, just a bit of clarification, we will not be offering additional tickets for purchase to win prizes at LMAR and winners must be present at the time of the drawing (roughly 5:30) to win.

Tickets will be issued to the person who rsvps with one ticket per "group" so if someone rsvpd on Maast for a +2, it would be one ticket for the member who put the RSVP.

A small update, one non-sponsor commercial vendor cancelled their reservation to the swap due to a crash yesterday. We then asked the first member of our waiting list (who is also a commercial vendor) if they would like a table and they accepted. They then said they would consider the Sponsorship discount and would not like to receive the charter membership nor would they participate in the Charter member door prizes. I then called the other non-sponsor commercial vendor and they said they did not want to win the prizes that were exclusive to the charter members. They also said that they have no problem dropping their charter membership and considering the sponsorship fee.

Long story short:

Great day and a nice turnout today at LMAR. Well organized event and the site chosen (San Antonio Aquarium) was great. Lots of awesome door prizes and huge variety of corals for every reefer of varying experiences. Looking forward to the next one!

Agreed. Great turnout and lots of awesome coral. Only picked up a neon green tip torch and a hammer but they're pretty cool looking. They will be going in my display today or tomorrow. They're in my sis cube right now and looking great.
