Saving up for something? Why are you getting rid of it?

Getting ready to move into an apartment while we build a house and won't have room for it.

Hi, I am not wanting to buy your biocube, but I do have some questions.
I have a biocube 29g and a kessil and I would like to cut a hole in the lid like you did. How did you do it? Does it cut down on evaporation?

Hi Jodie. I used a dinner plate to mark the hole and used a jigsaw to cut it out. It worked like a charm. Evaporation actually increased due to the large hole in the top but evaporation, though it may be hard to keep up with is actually good for your tank. I just added the JBJ top off system to it and it worked like a charm.
Is yours the Coralife 29 model?

Mine is an older one, i bought it used a few years ago. I have the top off now, I was actually wondering if the evaporation is less with the top on but with the hole, vs the top completely off?

Yes the top on with a hole cut in it will slow it down a little. Evaporation occurs over the entire surface of the water. Any water with nothing over it loses water to evaporation. That's why I decided to cut a hole rather than remove the lid all together. It looks more finished also.

The tank looks like it has red hair, there are so many worms sticking up everywhere lol. Came home from houston and out of nowhere a mushroom appeared too

It is definitely established to include the micro clean up crew! LOL feed those bad boys. :)

Silly question but what would i feed them. I havent put the fish in the tank yet. I rinse some brine shrimp out of my jar into the tank when the jar is empty. Idk what they would benefit most from and also not trash the tank with nutrients. Lol

They will be fine until you put fish in. Did you test for an ammonia spike? I am sure with a move like that you will have a small short cycle. I wouldn't wait too long after that to stock a fish or two to keep up the needs of the bacteria colonies.

I havent seen a ammonia spike at all. A little but of nitrates though

If you don't have ammonia or nitrites then your good for a couple of fish. That spike would have occurred within the first 24 hours if it was going to at all. Don't wait too long to introduce one or two fish.

It took awhile for me to get it running. My rodi is not putting out much water at all. I just replaced the prefilters a month ago and the micron filter is yellow and I am only getting probably 7 gallons in three days lol.

I probably need a booster pump too. Idk what the water pressure is but i never get the amount I am supposed to.

You are good now then if you're only detecting nitrates.

I wouldn't add more than 2 fish initially though. You'll want to make sure you didn't lose too much of the bacteria colony.

I will only have 2 fish in it anyways for now

I just do not want to overstress the fish since i have had them acclimating in another tank since wednesday. Idk if jumping to another tank will be too much

If I were you I would move them over. If the salinity and temps match in both tanks I wouldn't even acclimate to keep stress down. Net them and put them right over.

Bumping the thread for a new item. This is an awesome trap but won't need it for a while and don't want to move it and store it.
