Man all those tanks look awesome! I can't wait to get some acros growing out into some colonies like what Yall have, very impressive. Here is mine now, unfortunately it's pretty much all actnic right now. So the bottom one I dropped the saturation quite a bit.... which makes it seem even dirtier lol but at least it's not a blue screen!

Thanks it is simple and I didn't want a tall rock structure because I wanted to have room still after the sps grow out. Fish still gotta swim lol. My last tank 65g there was no room and I couldn't get my hand down to the sand to clean or a siphon.

Right now for flow I have a dc return that pushes roughly 1200 gph. A reeflo dart on a closed loop pushing 3600 gph across 4 outlets. And 4 aquatop circulation pumps, 2 that do 3200 and 2 that do 1500gph. Those are temporar y until I can get either a maxpect gyre or the new apex wav pump when those come available.

For nutrient export I have a Skimz monster external skimmer rated at 500gal, biopellets, and a refugium with cheato.

And ya the corner tank is nice except working on it is a pita since I can't reach the back walls. But definitely gives a lot of options for aquascaping. And you probably could see the fish better if I had more, and it was daylight pics. I will try to get some tomorrow.

It's the skimz monster sm 202, and yep it works amazingly well and it's broken! The gate valve on the exhaust pipe on it came in broken and I never got a replacement part for it. Even still though the gate floats on the water and actually kind of self adjusts for any variations of input volume

It's 60x30x18. Do a hard plumbing all the way. I used combination hard pvc and flex pvc. It's much cleaner with a hard pvc. I used ghost overflow with bean animal plumbing so my system is quiet. Make sure u utilize a swing check valve after ur return pump as a safety precaution. Use spin streams to create additional random flow. I have 4MP40s in my tank to create a random strong flow as I have SPS dominant tank. Apex is a must ;)

Thanks buddy, everything has flourished, I've been more diligent with a lot lately. I've successfully eradicated all my bryoposis in a week, color has never been more vibrant in color. Acans are beyond fluffy zoas are growing like chicken pox. I did however lose a clownfish recently due to what I assume in a niece who wanted to pet it when I was asleep. The last time they were over I found a stuffed cat toy floating on the top.

I'll try to grab some better pictures next week.

Thanks of course, I'm all about trading and giving away to be honest. I don't think it's really fair to charge people because coral really doesn't belong to us. I plan on adding maybe 20-30 more pieces of acros once I move into a bigger tank.

I'm going with a 65 planet aquarium, I'm debating doing a regular overflow or a ghost overflow. I'll be adding bio pellets, calcium reactor, gfo. I'll be taking the radion pro off this cube and adding 1 or possibly 2 more. I have an AI sol that I'm going to throw in the sump to grow out frags and use a Par bulb over the nano as a QT tank. Nothing terribly big but easy enough that I could still move it.

I'm going to be in San Diego for a wedding. I would normally jump on that option in a heart beat. The jump from an AIO to a modular system is going to be quite the upgrade for me. I also currently live in College Station, so that's quite the drive. Which is why I haven't been able to make a lot of the events since joining.

Nice tank Alton! You have an amazing selection of beautiful fish! Do you have any issues with them picking at the corals? I would imagine it would be incredibly difficult to catch one if it becomes a problem.

alton
Tue, 7th Jul 2015, 06:32 AM
The ones shown no, my female (med. sized shown) Flame picks on the birdsnest, but does not kill it. I did have to remove one juvenile Blueface Angel because he killed SPS. The adult Blueface was fine, but since I was trying to create pairs I removed him also. I have a plexiglass divider that I place in the tank and then remove all the corals and rock in that section. Since 2010 I have done that I think five times.

There is a Pair of Golden Angels that I got from LA Divers Den that come out for feeding, but stay in the rocks otherwise.

It is a great place because they grow so fast and shadow most other corals. At one time the purple was almost 24" across before I broke it off and took it to Terry's Store.

Love the 300! Looks so full that it doesn't even look like a 300, great job on filling that huge tank.

Except for the Bird of Paradise (GC Reef), and GSP (Alamo Aquatics) every other coral in this tank came from a MAAST Member, and the most I spent maybe $20? Most where $10 frags.

Alton what is the flow rate in ur tank

During the day I have two return pumps Pan World 50PXX 1100 gph, and a 40PX 480gph. Plus a Tunze nano and a Tunze 6100? (I got it from Beverly). At night everything shuts down but the 50PXX which makes for a very quiet tank. I had a Tunze wave box once but it created too much flow and my Frogspawn did not like it.

There is a Pair of Golden Angels that I got from LA Divers Den that come out for feeding, but stay in the rocks otherwise.

Those are beautiful fish! i saw one at Aquatek about 8 or 9 months ago and really had to talk myself out of getting it. I was worried about it nipping coral and back then my 65 was loaded with sps. They were selling it for just $75 too.... Anyway, really nice tanks Alton.

My first one I had in my 300 nipped at Sps, I could always figure where he was at by the chewed on Sps. The Sps wouldn't die, you could just see was being grazed on. After my Male Flame wouldn't leave him alone I sold him. These two have not destroyed the test Sps plug yet. I will try bringing in a Birdsnest next and see how they do. I read a story once on how they catch them, the diver looks for a pile of dead Sps, and then looks for a Golden hidden in between the dead coral.

Looks good Lucky! Your tank has filled out nicely, you are about out of real estate.

Its always nice to see your Gigas doing so well. What are the dimensions of your tank? In the coming months I will be moving mine to a larger tank. I am hoping the new tank will be large enough to sustain her for the next 10 years.

Here's a picture from last week. Please excuse the couple colonies of acros on the sand. I usually try to keep my chasm in the middle open but haven't gotten a chance to get those colonies glued on the rocks yet.

What kind of par are you led guys getting at your sps? Just wondering what if I'm low or high or close.

With 400-MH, I was getting 800 par up top, 400 middle, 250 sand on a 29" deep tank.

With LEDs, I am getting 400-500 par up top, 350 middle, 150-200 sand.

I have not measured the par yet after adding my three 60" T5 supplement bulbs yet. I'll update when I do that sometime next month.

FWIW, this was all measured with the old apogee sensor geared toward MH and T5 bulbs and not the new one geared towards LEDs.

Very nice
Here's one I took the other day. Instead of clearing the sandbed, I made it worst! :(
