If not what do you use as a replacement? I've always used one on my tanks but I am curious to what yall use instead.

My 65 and 300 yes, my wife's 20 no. After you take out the volume for rock and sand a 5 gallon water change every two weeks is almost a 50% water change.
The 156 in my old office with all the Xenia and softies would not pulse if I ran the skimmer.

I started saltwater tanks with a 35 tall that I ran without a skimmer for about 6 months. It did well but a few water changes missed in that small of a system and things got out of whack quickly. In my current 125 I run an NAC 7 and really helps keep the water and sandbed clean between water changes. I wouldn't run a larger system without one.

I don't use a skimmer on my 29 gallon biocube. The tank is 2-1/2 years old with about 20 pounds of live rock so there is plenty of biological filtration. I also use a large black filter sponge pad. I do run a reactor on it. Always running carbon and put phosguard in when phosphates creep up.

On my 65 I do run an SCA 305 skimmer. It has a heavy bio load with 12 fish and 15 bubble tips.

I also change out 20% of the water in both tanks weekly.

15 bubble tips? All separate purchases or little clones of each other?

I don't want to kill my dreams at what it looks like. Plus I'm at work. Forum browsing discretely.

No skimmer from last 4 months . Tank is 50gln net volume with 15lbs of live rock and less than a 10lns bag of sand giving it a very thin layer. Lots of corals with 3 medium size fishes. How ever I do have a marine pure brick in the sump don't know if it works or not but my nitrates are always around 20ppt which I am happy with . No algae what so ever and phosphate are always 0 . I have seen bit of reg slime algae on couple spots since last month but it hasn't spread so it's not bothering . In case if it does start spreading I will fire up the skimmer . Water change is 10gln every other week. Corals and fishes does get fed heavily everyday with no ill effects . Will post a full tank shot tomorrow

I don't, but I'm a FO with a low bioload.
