Ok so far I walked the jetty and only found baby puffers. Where are the peppermint shrimp found? I didn't find any last time I was here either.

Well I'm going back tomorrow possibly for some night hunting. If anyone can zero me in on a good place I would appreiciate it.

I've heard you can find them at night on the jetties with a net

Last time I did that all I found was blennies, maybe it was the season. What about the porcelain crabs?

Dean

The only time I have found them was in the oyster beds along the causeway.

If there is any sargasm grass in the surf you can usually find all kinds of critters in it. Filefish, triggers, pipefish, shrimp, etc. anglerfish

I was poking around the sargasm where the surf meets the jetty but no luck there, do you go out in the open surf looking?

Dean

Yep. Just knee to waste deep off the beach

It was pretty stirred up today anyhow, no visibility for snorkeling. The puffers are Canthigasters, do you know the sub species for these ones? They look kinda army camo.

I don't but we find them in the sargasm from time to time also. Cute little buggers

Speaking of trip, what ever happened to the yearly outing out to Corpus where we would all get together and hunt for livestock?

We are going this year if I'm not mistaken. Last year there was almost no interest and the year before that if I remember correctly a handful of people went out together for a day on the beach and collecting.

You can get peppermint shrimp, grass shrimp, tiger shrimp, rock flower anemones, snails, and Benny's amongst other stuff. The snails and almost everything you collect are not reef safe. If you end up with a bunch of stuff, peppermint shrimp and stuff, I would be willing to offer up some gas money (you can't legally sell anything you collect).

Ok so another very choppy day, should have brought a board. Anyhow, I took the advise on the surf hunting. I have a crap load of pipefish and baby puffers if anyone wants them. Let me know asap because I'm heading home tomorrow. I also had a strike of luck and found what looks to be 2 lined seahorses. Unfortunately the water showed no sign of calming so no dice on shrimp guys. Let me know if anyone wants anything!

Are these the blue eye puffers? So guys are so **** cool. I don't think I'll ever have a tank that could hold them though.

Not seeing blue eyes, I just know they are a toby so they shouldn't get to big.

What do you guys think? Lined Seahorses? Check the site below:

They are snapping at frozen cyclops but can't for sure confirm they are eaters yet.

I know this is a bad picture but basically I'm trying to take a shot of a wiggling pea. I originally was thinking angel but am leaning towards batfish now. Not a damsel that's for sure. There is a light "V" behind their eyes. I'll get better later.

Looks like possibly a spade fish. They are native to the Texas Coast. The adults hang out around the offshore rigs. Here's a pic of an adult.
