Alright guys, I have an upcoming move in Sept/October. I've acquired a beautiful collection of SPS from some vendors, a coupe local guys It's not a long move about 3 hours. However I'm planning on keeping my 12 gallon nano for the time being when I set up the new planet aquarium tank. I'm afraid to lose the frags so this is my idea.

Drain the 12 half way and put keep the coral in the tank and transport it with a power supply to keep the powerhead going. Once I'm there it will be the first thing off the truck and I'll top it off with more fresh salt water aqua vitro. During that first week I'll start to set up my tank. I plan to use the same salt from the same bucket, and toss some Dr. Tim's One and only to give it a kick start of the cycle. Once the cycle is complete wait another week then start transferring a acros over to a frag rack. My hope is that since the salt is the same and it shouldn't have to much of an effect on them. I'll still keep up with the water changes for the time being which would be 1 gallon a week on the bigger system. I then plan to get the calcium reactor set up and the biopellets set up as well.

Does this seem feasible? Am I missing any vital steps? The new tank will have new sand of course and will start off with dry rock.

To help combat I also plan to do a week of 25% water changes as soon as I arrive, does anyone where a good source of where I can get good RO/DI on the fly when I move? I'll be bringing 10 gallons with me.

If it were me I would remove the frags and pack them separate in bags of tank water. Then do a good thorough cleaning of the sand and rock to remove as much detritus as possible from the tank. Make the move, refill the tank and get the temp right. Temperature acclimate the frags and you're all set.

I agree with Dean. If it were me I would remove and bag the frags or put the frags in seperate buckets. The main thing I would be worried about is having them potentially moving around and making contact with one another. Once this happens you can almost bet there will be a slim war that will start to impact other corals in the tank.

Thanks guys, If anyone has space in their tank I'd be more than happy to lease some space from your tank. In return I'll cut a frag or two of something that I have which is big enough.

If that doesn't happen to work out I was going to bag everything float them, put the rock in a container with tank water, drain the water just above the sand line and dump some prime in. Dump the prime out upon set up and build her back up. Do a water change every night, for about a week.

I moved a 29 gallon just like you are describing, but in Sept/Oct heat will be your biggest issue. Too many times we move stuff and because we have the AC blowing on us we feel it is cool enough, not! With a 3 hour move place all corals in an ice chest with a thermometer. Save as much water as possible, hopefully your tank will only go through a mini cycle when you set it back up?
