Wanted to get some opinions on if I could/should use dry rock that has been left outside for a couple years.
There are 4 big piece i could use but im a little worried cause they have been out in the elements for 2-3 years now.
Probably have been peed on by the dogs, sprayed with insecticide and fertilizer.

Could it be safe to use?
What can i do to clean it, if useable? (boil)

Personally I wouldn't use it because of the chemicals you mentioned it might have came in contact with.

I don't see what you couldn't use it after some boiling and freshwater soaks but idk I've never had to do that.

Thats what i was think also sealmeister
But didnt know if for some reason the chemical might stay in the rock even after the boils and rinse.

I would also be worried about the chemicals left over. But maybe a more intensive cleaning. Like power-wash then a Muric acid dip (that will dissolve the outer layer of rock) then another power wash to make sure all the acid is gone. Maybe do some research into the acid dip for live rock. I think it would help because just boil and rinse might miss things deep in the cracks. Spider nests come to mind, sure they would be dead but I still wouldn't want it in my tank.

If the rock is worth more the $3 or $4 dollars a pound to you then go through the acid wash/ boiling process as well as a curing process. By curing process I mean put the rock in a tub of saltwater with a power head for a couple of months to cure. Running a carbon reactor on the curing live rock tub would absorb any left over chemicals and perhaps changing the water 100% every couple of weeks would also be beneficial.

My opinion is that it would be much safer and less expensive to just purchase some dry rock online or from a LFS that hasn't been pesticide sprayed or urinated on. :)

Meh, I bought a tank years ago that was saltwater but I used it for fresh. It had crushed coral and some live rock. I didn't know what it was at the time so I threw it out back. A few years later I put it in the tank, didn't have any problems. Then again, I know no chemicals were on it, so if you have doubts it's your decision to make.
