Can I turn this into a media reactor?

Two where given to me, I believe they where from a ice maker.
I'm worried about the metal screws under the lid.

If the screw won't negatively effect reef, where can I get the inner cartridge?

So long as the screws are high grade stainless steel they wouldn't hurt anything. You should be able to find carbon cartridges for this at Home Depot or Lowes. You could also modify them your self to be able to use bagged media.
