So after many years of up and downs with the tank, im going to give it another try.

I am currently about 2 months into the clean up.
Tank used to be FULL of hair algae, but i started doing weekly water changes and started pulling as much algae as i could by hand with every water change.
I have also decided to start using RO/DI water from now. (been using tap water for years)
So we will see if things clean up.

Can someone shed some light on what i am doing wrong with this small fuge.
I havent noticed any growth in the cheato, and i have begun to grow this brown hair algae.

It looks like your'e tank is headed in the right direction for a full recovery. :)
On the cheato it looks like your sump needs some maintenance to get the nuisance algae out of it as well. The nuisance algae is in direct competition with the cheato for nutrients so I would get rid of as much of it as was possible. I am also using a par 30 4k led for my fuge and the cheato grows like crazy. I think it was like $20 at Lowes. Here are some pics of the light

I Look at the tank an its depressing to still see the hair algae, but looking back at the older pic and it probably decreased by about 50%
