I now feel after a couple algae outbreaks over the years that regular testing is the most important to me. The recent addition of Biopellets has dropped my nitrates and (somewhat) phosphates. Ive always had pretty good cal, alk, and mag numbers since I dont have much sps. I got to where I was relying to much on my corals for clues. I feel that it is helpful to watch your corals but I now do not solely rely on it. This idea hit me late last year before christmas. I was thinking what made my 65g so successful and realized how much I used to test. Well lesson learned. Ha

Whats your most important? It can be equipment, maintenance, etc.

For me it is the 25% weekly water changes. The longer I extend the time between water changes the less vibrant my reefs become. Not only does this act as a great way to export nutrients but it keeps the trace elements at a more constant value.

Second would be keeping up with replacing the carbon in my reactors on a monthly basis. This helps keep the tank water immaculately clear as well as removing any possible toxins that may come with keeping mixed reefs.

+1 to both of yalls comments. I would also add keeping it simple.

Water changes, good equipment and keeping it simple!! All three are the most important part of reefing imo!

i dont remember the last time I tested anything... And my tank has been fine for 4 years, when i ran into issues, I tried slacking on water changes... Never again.!

also, hungry tangs are very beneficial.

I would agree with everyone else. I have found that after each of my major setbacks to my reef, they have almost all been caused by some extra piece of equipment that I thought I needed that either stripped the tank too bare or added something unwanted to the tank. I am now a full blown KISS follower. KISS and water changes for me!

Consistant water changes (for me it's 12 gallons every sunday), syphon sand bed during weekly water change and having more than enough skimmer.
