I've been thinking about upgrading to a 46 bow, but I'm not sure of the step I want to take as far as lights and filteration.
Currently I have T8s with some mush, a toadstool, and a few other randoms. I would like to up the coarl a bit which means ill need some stronger lights.

Some 150w metal halides would be a great fit on that size tank.
Would you be running a sump/skimmer?

You could get away with a Chinese black box led on the cheap, or halides as suggested.

I've got a 72 reef ready bow, and love it. Only complaint I have is lack of ability to upgrade my sump due to stand space underneath. My stand is 32" and whatever I put underneath can't be longer than 28"-29". I also have a canopy, and LED'S hang nicely

Hmmm... I wonder if there's a way around that. I saw a sump that had sand, plants, rock, cheato, and a few others. This was all in a sump... I want something like that..

I was wanting a refugium, and that's what got me thinking. Instead I bought a Marine Pure high performance biofilter media block, and 1 gallon of their 1.5" spheres. I put the block in the sump, and replaced half my plastic bio balls with the spheres. May be over kill, but I figured I'd see how it goes.
Marine Pure has a pretty good read, and something you may want to take a look at.
