If I have an aquarium stand that is 30'' long, 30'' deep, and 40'' tall and want to fit it in a door way that is 28'', can this be done?

I have done the math and it should work, but I'm having trouble visualizing it.

So

Front:

Top down:

Side

===

Each represents 10''.

The stand would go in at the 30'' side with the 40'' side parallel to the ground. This means that the stand would be 42.3'' at it's max diagonal.

It would take 21'' of vertical space once the tank is turned at an angle of 64 degrees (arcsin 21/35) from the ground to fit it in the door to give me a space of 35''. Of course it would be higher because the footprint is 30'' x 30''

This would be give a triangle ABC 21 28 35''. Using 35'' for extra space with angle AB=90 BC=64 and AC=26

Does this make sense? I would be putting the stand with this footprint

Maybe I'm over thinking it, but if anyone good with math or CAD could help me out that'd be sweet.

Or would I use the triangle 28'' x 42.3 x 31.71? 42.3 represents the max distance of the stand, 28'' for the doorway and 31.71 as the minimum height needed.

In that case, it would be arcsin(32.71/42.3) for a value of 84 degrees?

Hmm, just made a model in word, doesn't seem to fit...

Any ideas on getting this in the room?

That measurement is with the door off the hinge. My doors have about an 1'' of door stopper and a 30'' doorway for 28'' total.

What about two of these 29 gallon stands?

Skinned, but i would have 5'' in the middle "unsupported". I would have a plywood sheet under the tank. Would that work? One sheet on the inside bottom of the sump area so everything can be on the same level.

JJ, does your woodguy do skinning on stands?

What about a window

Or take door stops off for 30 in instead of 28in. Couple of nails and paint after.

No backdoor? Sliding glass? Windows? I know I've used all of the above at one point or another.

Not really an option, or maybe it is, but I once disassembled a couch with a sledge hammer to get it out my back door (front door is blocked by my tank).

I actually hadn't considered the window at all. Gotta measure that when I get home. Haven't opened that thing since we moved in lol. As for the door stops, without its actually like 29.75".

Do the math you need a 30x30 opening to go in bottom first or top first anything on an angle will be more than 30''. I love the Texas educational system. LOL

By the way most interior doors are 30'' where you putting this in the pantry.

In a room. It's an older house, so not sure why the doorway is so small. Math isn't my area of expertise, I study anatomy and physiology.

I built a stand like that.. Had to do it in two halves, actually worked out well and I could fit through any door. Each half was 30x15x36 tall. And I created a cap for the tank to sit on.

Sweet!!! Thanks slim! I think I have some ideas for the stand. Will post up sometime in a few weeks when I can convince my fiancé its a go.

Check in the medium tank sectioni for my build. It was a 93 cube. Frameless.

Got it! Will read up on it.
