Alright everybody I have something pretty big in the works. This isn't a maybe it will happen... This IS going to go down. I am talking about a 3 category competition. Zoa/ paly, LPS, and SPS. There will be a minimal entry fee to help cover the cost of some super nice frags and some great prizes in each of the three categories. That's right, minimal entry free for a nice coral frag, friendly competition, and an opportunity to win some excellent prizes!

I am currently working with 3 of our sponsors who have stepped up and will be supplying us with some great frags as well as some sweet prizes at an awesome price. These 3 sponsors have really stepped up to the plate for us!

You must be a charter member to enter. To maximize the number of participants all Charter members, Moderators, and Board of Directors members will be allowed to participate. Each participant will have the opportunity to enter any one of the categories and up to all 3 categories if they wish to. Each category will have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes. All reefers are welcome. If you live out of San Antonio like Austin or Corpus Christi, I will get your frags to you so don't hesitate compete!

Of course the more interest we receive the nicer the prizes can be. The entry fees are yet to be determined but would be no less than $10.00 and no more than $20 per category. I will know more on that as the sponsors get back to me with the exact type of coral frags they are getting us along with the prize packages that they are offering. So far I have the zoa/ paly package confirmed and I promise you that it is a truly epic package that they have offered us!

This is just a "looking for interest thread". The announcement/ sign up thread will follow as I get the other two packages finalized and see the interest that the competition draws.

Please feel free to reply with comments and don't forget to vote in the poll above to reflect the categories that you will be interested in.

Hey Mitchell. Im waiting for the coral types from the other two sponsors. When I find out for sure what type of coral they are proposing we will make that determination but I would say between 4 and 6 months.

I would like to do all three but I have horrible luck with SPS as I tend to break them accidentally. Always happens while cleaning the tank so I picked LPS but would like to do LPS and zoa/paly if possible.

I am waiting for the approval from the rest of the BOD on the zoa/paly category which I have received a proposal from one of our sponsors on so the type of paly in this case has been already decided but that would indeed be a good one for a shorter time frame in our next competition. When I have all 3 coral types determined I would love input from everyone as to how long the time frame should be though before we make it official. One thing to take into account is that there are going to be prizes awarded so we need to consider the possibility of a tie being greater the shorter the competition is..

For the sake of clarification I updated the opening post to make it more clear that each category will have an entry fee as well as prizes for the top three in each category.

I'm super excited to see so much interest. We are working hard to try to kick this off in early November.

I wonder if we can do Goniopora or Alveopora for the LPS. One of the hardy Goniopora would be great.

That is a great idea John! I am going to be picking up all of the frags and would like to get them all handed out in the same day. A ton of driving for me but well worth it to get this one off the ground.

Btw everyone. The announcement/ sign up thread will be posted soon so make sure you keep checking back. We will be growing three amazing types of corals and some of our sponsors and one extremely generous charter member have truly stepped up to the plate on this one!

All right guys and gals the sign up thread is up. If you're still interested please sign up so Rob, JJ, and Minh can get to fragging and we can get healed frags by November 9th. Thanks!
