I have noticed that I have some type of hair algae growing on the tube of my feather duster. I tried to pull some of it off but its really stuck tp it. I dont want to hurt the feather duster but I also dont want this to spread. Im not sure if its hair or bryopsis. Is there a safe way to get it off or cut the tube?

Took it out of the tank and placed it in a bucket with power head and lid. Starving it from the light until it dies off.

With nutrient free water and no light for photosynthesis the bryopsis will perish. Hopefully long before the feather duster worm. The only other option I know of would be to try to get the worm to change clothes and throw the old garb away. lol Hopefully you caught it before the bryposis has had a chance to spread any.

ya it was just attached to that one rock so I pulled the feather off of it and threw the rock away. I looked around in the tank and nothing else seems to be affected.

Just checked on it and have to say I believe all the bryopsis has melted away. The work seems to be fine still but haven't seen it open up. I'm going to take out some tank water to rinse it in before adding it back to the tank.

Successfully added the feather duster back into the tank last night and it opened right up. All algae is gone. Thanks to Dean for the advice.
