Where does everyone get their salt from? What kind and approximately how much does it cost?

Any LFS would do...i buy the 5 gallon bucket of Brightwell for approx $55. Shipping cost too much online due to the weight.

If you have already started with a brand it is recommended that you don't change to another one unless you have run into issues with current brand used.

I like Kent pro reef although others have had success with just about every brand. Salinity is also a very very good brand although any recommendation would depend on your type of tank.

You can get 200 gallons worth of Instant Ocean for $45 at www.drsfostersmith.com (http://www.drsfostersmith.com). If you spend $49, you get free economy shipping. That's where I get mine.

+1 on sticking to a salt. Mixing different brands isn't recommended due to different concentrations of additives. I've been using Red Sea Pro for the last 5+ years. About $65 for a large bucket...$25 for the tiny bucket. Its all about preference.

Thank you so much for all the information... I'm thinking of switching from reef crystals to Red Sea Coral Pro. But nothing is wrong with my current setup..i just hear so many good things about that salt

I have made the switch from reef crystals to a different brand, in my case kent, and had no side effects. I just bought the new salt and started doing water changes with it. As long as your doing it slow like that, I don't see the harm.

If your tank is responding well with the salt you're currently using I wouldn't change it if I were you.
