So it looks like we're going to get some storms tonight (fingers crossed). I look forward to the rain but not the lightning. Seems like, so much as a neighbor sneezes in the wrong direction and we have a power outage. Granted the outages never last long, I don't like the stress they put on every electronic in the house.
So, what's your tank (or otherwise) backup plan?
I keep it simple.

I have a battery back up for my vortech
I thought about getting a backup for my Vortech but couldn't bring myself to pay top dollar for something that would RARELY be used.
Have you experienced a power outage with the Vortech backup? How long?

Nice!
Wish my Reefkeeper (Lite) emailed me in an emergency.

I didn't get one single drop of rain last night. LOL
Anyone get rain? Let's hear about some more backup plans.

That's pretty typical of "the weatherman". It only happens when they dont see it coming.

Yeah, no kidding. Prepare for opposite of our local forecast. We really could have used that rain here, oh well.

We have a small 1000w generator. Used it twice.
Also have a UPS I keep meaning to hook up, for circulation. I need to do that...
But, I don't have a reef tank anymore. So I'm sort of good for a day or so.

Did you purchase the generator specifically for your tank? Of was it purchased for your house?
Reason I ask...
I would assume that in an emergency, you would consider plugging in you refrigerator, a few lights, and fans. How much "room" would you have left to attach fish tank accessories?

I bought a small generator 'cause it was $100! Usually, I power a return pump with it, and my office computers.

I'd be keeping my food cold and my fans blowing. My tank would have to "deal" with the bubble for the time being.

My uncle (East coast) got one of those backup systems that ties into your electrical and kicks in seamlessly. He got it due to the snow storms. Nice but super expensive.

I've plumbed in a few natural gas whole house back up generators. They have all been on the 9,000 sqft homes and larger. Super expensive.

I got the battery backup bubble pump that plugs into power and comes on only when the power goes off. I also have only one of my Vortechs on a ups so I should be ok.
My goal is to put my Apex on a strong ups system to handle a 8 hour power loss. It can be set it to turn everything except the sump pump and a Vortech in the event of a power loss.
