So hello to cladophora.

I've been doing this for almost 20 years and this is a new one to me. This just showed up in the last 3 weeks. And man is it hardy. It grows these long and stringy lengths that have a delicate network of branches. It's fairly easy to remove at least for now, but it grows extremely fast.

From reading a little, this algae can grow in nutrient poor waters but requires high light levels. So it's doing pretty well in my tank.

Api claims that during tests, it's product worked 40% of the time, all the time, much like sex panther. They actually said it worked 100% of the time on cladophora. So I started my first dose today and am supposed to dose again in 3 days. I also added a kole yellow eye tang and it seems to love this stuff too.

looks like the same stuff I had Cory, good luck I hit it with Red Sea no-po-x and no real luck. best thing i did was muratic acid was all my old rock before using a few pieces in my new tank.

Big- Do you still have some of that Muriatic Acid? Just did a Vinegar bath on some rocks that bubble and Bryopsis. I just want to make sure it is completely clean before putting it in the new tank.

Before I tear the tank down, that's my next plan. But I'll move the corals to a holding tank and go longer than that. Possibly 30 days?

Me too!

If it comes to a full breakdown, that's next. I've been reading your thread on the acid dip.

I'll let you know how it works. Do a google search and make sure. Even with daily removals this stuff will grow right back like you never touched it within 24 hours. Very depressing.

Nothing to report yet. But the tang cleared away a rock today so that's good.

Can someone flag this post? That's the kinkiest thing that's ever been said in the forums.

I thought I'd go my whole life without typing this, but...lmfao

Nah, wait till I can get that nikon 105m micro lens and you'll see. I had a bad algae problem from LEDs. I'm actually running both. Check out my build my led and reefbrite hybrid.

This is the bml added to my light rack at a 25 degree angle

and then I added 3 reefbrite xho's on the back side of the rack at the same angle. The bml wins hands down. The uv lights are really key to LEDs success. I had more luck with color and growth when I added that hydra than with the vega's.

How's the algae looking?

Actually there's been a dramatic improvement Kevin. Thanks for asking. Here's a pic at day zero and day 2. I've will post some more pics tomorrow.

The algae stopped growing almost immediately. Even the powder algae growth on the glass stopped. No other I'll effects noted. The hair algae has turned a slimy brown. Then parts of it became covered in red cyano, which then falls of the rocks.

Hey Cory
Any updates on this nasty stuff?

So the cladophora was completely eliminated by the algae fix. The bad news is the new open real estate is now being taken over by a new algae (not brypopsis). Algaefix seems to slow this new algae's growth but its not nearly as effective as it was on the previous strain. I'll keep documenting and post results every few weeks.
