So my tank is being prepped to house all different types of zoas and palys... I had some frags and went crazy gluing them everywhere..... its still a mixed reef and have sps and chalices but I got the zoo itch awhile back........ hope you like...
And I have frags of almost everything, so i am willing to trade for other zoas... PM me.

Most oem lenses are garbage.... Most..
Spending on a lens is a great idea if you really use your camera....
Check out craigslist or you can even rent before you buy at some camera places... Thats what i did with this lens and had to have it...
For our vacation to disney over the summer the wife bought me a 15-85mm lens and it is awesome... Not even a L series lens but much more better quality than with what came as a package..

Im no pro by far but just messing with this camera these couple of years now and cant stand to use anything other than manual mode.... I like complete control... And i am still learning...
A cheaper option for macro shots is extension tubes, look them up on amazon. They should be under $20

Yeah I wouldn't buy either of the 2 lenses that came with the camera if I had my choice, but got a great deal on it as a package. Years back (40 yrs.) I had a Minolta SRT202 with some exceptional lenses that I bought. I am just not crazy about the new digital cameras like the old ones. Every setting was manual and you couldn't see the picture until it was developed. LOL But the flexibility with those cameras for specific effects was great.

Question:
Have you had an problems with your camera Nikon D5k shutting off and on during the time you are taking pics? Then give some kind of internal error?

No Eve, everything has work fine so far. I've had it a year and am still learning how to use it though. So different from the old style SLR's.

350 just bring that frag rack and you're old mans camera over and I'll show you how to use it. Of course the frags get to stay. LOL

Looks a lot like all SLRs back in the day. Manually set film speed (ASA) light meter in viewfinder, lens ring adjust apature and dial on top to adjust shutter speed and lens manual focus ring. Get your light meter in the viewfinder centered in the gauge with apature (f-stop) and shutter speed, then focus the lens then shoot. Good luck finding a place to develope film though, LOL

One of the things I struggle with is White Balance, especially with LED's. Looks like you've got that down though, 350gt. Any pointers?

What camera you using?
On my canon:
Put something white in the tank... I used a piece of pvc..
Take a pic, go into the menu and settings, look for white balance and select it. You then select the pic of the pvc and wolla the canon handles the rest.... It took me a couple of tries to get it right.... But i set it and forget it... Pretty neat imo..
Asfar as settings
Nothing but manual mode
Manual focus
i use live view for macro shots.... Another awesome feature...

Nikon D90. Did some reading up on it and I see that I can use Live View to see the White Balance settings in real time, or use the PRE setting and basically do the same as you are describing, take a pic of something white in the tank and allow the camera to figure out the settings on its own. Didn't realize this was possible with this camera, I've just been guessing at the settings and hoping they come out OK. Now I have something to mess with when I get home today ;)
