Yay.. I finally got fed up with purple stuff, been treating slowly, lots of water changes but not quite fast enough for me so I went ahead and treated with Chemi-Clean. (Yes, I was worried sick)
10 little scoops of meds mixed with tank water in a cup. Treated the tank- Lights off- Skimmer Off, Carbon removed, added extra water flow and 3 days later its GONE...
Thank goodness.
Chemi- 1
Cyano-0

Chemiclean worked for me and was happy happy happy but then I got green hair algae of some sort.
Now thats gone and cyano came back. Limited the growth with lighting, believe it or not.
Not running the light as long. It could be for me that I had it in the sand.
Chemiclean does not work in the sand. I may lower my dsb in the front.

We had it mainly on the sand and it was nearly gone in two days... Off the Rocks & walls in 3.. Day 4 all traces gone.
Oh and thank goodness i dont keep SPS.. :) Just mainly lots of Zoas & a couple large Carpet Nems, Duncans and a few Favia. Everyone is doing good.

Also I've been doing a 5 g water change every 3-4 days to try and cut it back, but it's not helped yet.

I did 40 gal water changes every week for 3 months... Lots of Salt, Lots of Water.. Lots of $$$ Spent = No Results for us. This was my last resort.

Are you running a bio pellet reactor? I ask because I had lots with my tank when I had one setup. As soon as I took it off line, cyano gone. I read somewhere that cyano can feed on polymers released by the pellets.

No bio pellets for me yet, I was thinking of giving them a try. I took carbon out of the reactor yesterday and went to Gfo.

and see if that helps

What size tank do you have? And how much of a water change were you doing before?

I was doing 15-20g every 2 weeks or so. But started a big outbreak of gha, so then I moved to a more often w/c which has helped almost kill off the gha. But cyano has kept up with no change in severity

I know this was about chemiclean and cyano, but
for those that have pellet reactors and cyano, I sent the output of the reactor to the skimmer, and cyano allmost gone
