Hey everyone, I recently plumbed my frag tank and DT together using one return pump. The return line going to the frag tank is 1/2" and the return going to the DT is 3/8". The frag tank is getting a lot of flow and my DT is not getting much flow now; would changing the DT return line to 1/2" increase flow to it?

I'm also thinking about adding a ball valve on both sides, just want to see if this could be a quick fix before cutting the lines in half.

Thanks in advance!

1/2" and 3/8" is that much difference. Even if you change them both to 1/2" you will not likely get the same amount of flow out of both lines. There are other factors to consider such as length, bends, turns, or elbows, and even height. The only way to adjust or control the flow is by adding some type of valve on each line.

I'm guessing when you say 3/8" line you used some sort of plastic tubing. Which if you did, you could add something like a clamp to partially restrict the flow instead of cutting and adding ball valves. Not the best way but......

Yes, switching the lines will help. Agreeing with the last reply, I'd add a ball valve to your frag tank if you want to restrict some of the flow to that line.Personally I would put a ball valve on the dt line, but would only use it for a shutoff or maintenance valve only. You don't want to restrict both lines since it will increase the wear/tear on your pump from the increased head pressure.

Awesome! I think I'm going to try to put a ball valve on the frag tank return line and see how that goes. Eventually I do want to put one on both and have both lines be equal id
