Here is a good education link on this type of plumbing.

I have a "Bean" tank I picked up from Shane. Mine has a full length overflow with the majority of the flow entering the chamber with the emergency overflow. The water runs through the first chamber and enters the second chamber from the bottom, where the two primary stand pipes are. This virtually eliminates any turbulence in the second chamber or standpipes. I have actually had one of my pairs of seahorses deliver fry in this tank. When I reduced the flow for the delivery the majority of the fry were happily swimming on the surface of the second chamber and did not get sucked into the filter sock. Pros - can handle a whole lot of flow, is virtually silent and provides a safe area for fry. Cons - the plumbing takes up a lot of room.

Here are a couple of pics of the back of the tank.

I also have a bean animal overflow on my dsa105 and enjoy not having to listen to gurgling or water splashing like I used to on my durso. Plus it provides the added comfort of knowing your tank will have a backup drain just in case the main pipe gets clogged.
