Currently have my tank at 86.5degrees, trying to get rid of some ich on a box fish. Everything in the tank seems to like the higher temp. Usually run about 80. How long should I run higher temp and would it hurt to leave at 82 when done?

Be careful with using a higher temp to rid your box fish of ich. The higher temperature increases the rate at which ich goes through its lifecycle by increasing its metabolism and by doing so, should cause the population in the water column to die out sooner, it is not necessarily a true alternative to medicinal treatment. The temperature also increases the metabolism of your fish and corals as well leading to a need for increased feedings and potentially shorter lifespans. Leaving your tank at a higher temp like 82 will not kill anything outright as stability is more important then actual temp 9 times out of 10. Also, remember acclimation of anything new will take longer so you don't shock them with the warmer water.

Good information. I just didn't want to stress the fish out by moving it around or fw dipping trying to keep from nuking tank.

Not a great way to deal with ich. Look into metronitozole. Works wonders for me
