This isn't really an emergency I'm just lookin for some help. Wondering if anyone around here has had success with keeping a clown tang. I've tried two small ones and they both died on me . Idk what to do bc i really want one but i dont want to risk losing another one.

Why not just post this in general reef keeping? "The Emergency forum is available for your "help me quickly!" needs."

Didn't know it was that serious plus I wasn't sure where to post.

Beautiful fish. As long as u keep ur water parameters good and don't underfed or overfeed. Doesn't like a lot of stress either. Some are tempermental. Keep it w other peaceful fish. And supplement it w seaweeds or greens and give it plenty of hiding areas along ur tank and u should be ok.

How about, instead report the post, and ask the mods to move it. Instead of chastising the poster. As a Board Member.

It wasn't really a TOU violation, it was simply a suggestion to keep the emergency forum for emergencies. Like OP listed, alot of people are unsure where to list things, this was just a push in the right direction. No need to get personal.

Ok guys it is in the correct area now. Let's please get back on topic here and help this guy make sure his next clown tang actually stick around for a bit.

Do you have any other tangs that may be territorial? I bought a naso tang that got bullied by my yellow tang. He died in 6 days. So sad...

I currently have a yellow belly hippo and a purple tang. They are cool in the tank together no one is a bully in the tank anymore I took my bi color angelfish out who seemed to not like new fish. I'm just really interested in bringing a colorful tang into my tank. I keep seein pictures of the clown tang but I keep sayin no it'll just die again but part of me is like yes bc they are colorful

Exactly. No need for you to come off as a jerk about it. The guy was just asking for help - no need to jump his case about it. It's just a fish club - it's not like you got elected to Congress.

As for your tang... These guys can be difficult at the start. There's a reason why Live Aquaria lists them as "Expert Only". But once you get them eating well and disease free, they are usually very hardy. However, they then often turn to the terrors of your tank. Ace had one that they called "Cujo". Nastiest fish...

My personal experience with tangs, all tangs, get them from another member.

I'm not an expert, nor have I ever had a clown, but most of my little tangs from the LFS fared poorly in my tanks. I stopped buying the small ones, and whenever possible I would pick up a tang from another member... Seemed that those tangs were already hardened to tank life and I was less likely to mess up.

I currently have a 125 Gallon. In which i was tryin to trade for something bigger. But it seems like im stuck with this one untill someone wants to downgrade. Seems like i should just forget about gettin a clown tang. Any suggestion on another beautiful Tang that wouldnt be so hard to take care. It's kind of hard to wait on getting a tang out of someone elses take not a lot of people seem to be getting rid of tangs that I am interested in or already have. And both the tangs I currently have i got them at LFS and they are both healthy. So i guess it's just a hit or miss type of thing.

My luck with tangs is to get them when their eating. They are social fish, so more than one is nice.
I picked up 2 tiny blue hippos and they are now in a 40breeder. Both are eating. o yea
How did you lose your clown tangs?

Tiny tangs never do well for me in a large system. Especially if there are already larger tangs in there.

When I got the first one it was getting picked on by the Bi-Color angelfish that i had in my tank. So he got stressed out and gave up. The second one was a lil shy didnt really eat when got put into my tank but he was eating before he came into my tank, plus he was small. So if I end up getting another small one I think I'll keep him alone till he grows big enough to put in my main tank. IDK though

Every fish store I have been to in the last couple of weeks has had a bunch of baby hippos for sale. I bet the majority end up stressed and dead in a few months when they outgrow their Nemo and Dori nano tanks. I'm just giving bbq a hard time, I know he has a bay system in his living room to move them to when they grow out.

Has any body ever bought fish from the reef corner. I seen this nice clown tang on there for $129. Lil rich for my blood if he ends up dieng. I'd put some extra money withthat 129 and just buy and achillies, sohal or something thats actually worth spending that amount on. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6kLbq27jbQ

Remember on the tangs they grow big and some are aggressive swimmers. The clown tang is an aggressive swimmer.

Yes i know thats why i was trying to get a bigger tank. I'd rather keep my fish and continue to watch them get bigger then have to trade them out when they get to big for my 125.

The clown tang is an awesome tang. I have seen posts on here that they are aggressive with the other fish too. just an fyi
Big tangs are nice to have but you allways pick up the bad habits with them too.
Sometimes a smaller tang is better cause you can develop good habits with the fish.
For example I have seen posts here with the big hippos eating coral.
So Im hoping by getting tiny I can develop good habits with them.

How about a powder blue?

Btw, all tangs should go through a quarantine. I just added a powder and a kole. Done with tangs in a 215.

Yea I had been thinkin about getting a Powder blue because their color would be awesome with my LED lights. But i had heard they get pretty aggressive. I was looking at getting an gold-rim (whitecheeck) Tang and a powder blue to finish off my tangs/fish in my tank. but idk i wish i could find a Juvenile Chevron Tang.

Everything I've read says that the Clown Tang gets very aggressive also. Man I saw a chevron somewhere the last couple of weeks...I think it was Aquarium Designs but don't remember for sure.
