What kind of dry rock?

I've only pre-treated dry rock with lanthium chloride, but that was fiji. I would do the same for pukani. ReefSaver and marco rocks I wouldn't.

If it's rock you had that dried out or got from somebody else (if it was used already) I would use LC on it as well to remove the phosphates.

Are you in a hurry? I would just let sit in a tub of saltwater with a power head and do a couple large water changes over a couple months to remove phosphates.

If you're set on muratic acid try to pm Ramsey. He did it.

The problem is if the rock has bound phosphates, it could take more than a few months to leech them out. Using a phosphate remover to remove the po4 in the water column will draw them out of the rock faster than water changes alone.

It's easy to do. I just filled a brute can with water and the rock, then slowly poured in the acid. I think the ratio was 1:10 acid to water. There's a good thread on RC on how to do it. It was amazing to see all the brown nasty stuff the acid pulled out of the rock. My rock was old LR though.

You have to neutralize the acid with bath in a base like baking soda. I'm not sure on the ratio though

I just threw in several boxes of baking soda when it was done cooking. After that, I drained the acid water and filled it back up with tap water for 24 hours. Then drained that water and let the rock dry for a couple of weeks.

Lucky, I put a mag pump in the bottom of the brute as well to keep the water circulating. Also, test the ph when adding baking soda. Test to about 7 ph to ensure you have neutralized the acid.

Also, pukani is pretty porous to start with. I wouldn't let it sit in the bath for more then 15-30 mins. The acid might eat it up too much and make it very brittle

Thanks bro .
Also after acid bath tap water rinse is fine or ro water .
Would a rock be ready to use after being couple days under sun for it to completely dry or takes longer

I just laid it all out in the driveway and hosed it down. It should be fine as long you rinse if off well. I've never dried it in the sun or anything.
