My ph dropped drastically out of no where. It has been pretty stable around 7.97 to 8.13 that was 2 days ago. I just checked everything now and it was at 5.27 before lights out. I did a pretty good water change as a cya. Still waiting to test. What could cause that drastic of a drop? Ammonia is 0. Nitrites are 0 and nitrates are 10ish. Only change was I added a couple fish and started adding kalk to my ato. Any clue?

My fish are all fine and stress free. Zoas and feather duster are open and happy. Bad prob or it freaked out?

Did you dry your probe dry out somehow? They'll ruin if they dry. I seriously doubt that ph reading is correct, especially if you're adding kalk to your topoff. Kalk will raise your ph.

If you want to test your probe, put the probe in kalk water and see what the ph is. Fully saturated kalk water should be around 12.

Never dried out. It came in the little cap cover and I calibrated it day one and it was working fine. I will dunk it tomorrow and see what's up. I know kalk is supposed to raise ph. Which is why I was perplexed. I don't have a test kit for ph either. I'll probably get one now. Appreciated Ramsey. I'll try the kalk dip tomorrow.

Not enough oxygen in the water? Did you change anything up?

always keep a back up test kit. do not make any changes until you test again. electronic devices can fail at anytime.same thing happen to me but it was a chemical I'm dosing that pooled up near probe and caused false reading. of your fish and coral are fine I would say it's the probe.

+1 on the false reading no way Ph can drop that low with you doing nothing to it :)

Dropped the probe in my ato. Went up to 9.87ish. Went and bought a test kit. Ph is right about 8.0 according to the test kit and 3.93 on the probe. So it twas a bad probe. Now the headache of returning it begins. Appreciate the help guys.

I calibrated it when I first installed it a couple weeks ago. It shouldn't have gotten thrown off that quickly. It was brand new and came with the packets.
