Well I have a slight problem with bryopsis. I have identified it as so because I have called a few members and seems to be bryopsis.its on a few frags I purchased. It's only on my 29g quarantine thank goodness! I have heard of hydrogen peroxide dosing as well as Kent Magnesium. Any recommendations? I have sps/lps and a carpet in there. Lmk!

I've had the same issue. Kent tech m and brought my mag up to around 1600-1700 over the course of a few weeks. It killed off all the bryopsis and it hasn't returned. It's important to use tech m. It's not the magnesium in it, it's another ingredient that kills the bryopsis.

Kent Tech M worked for me as well and my corals loved it.

TechM. Has to be Kent TechM. Check your mag level now and then raise it 30% over that number. Lots of people say 16-1700, but that didn't work for me. I raised my mag to 2100 and kept it there. I also raised it by 200 ppm per day. It was scary as I was dumping two cups of TechM in each day. Also, there aren't any kits that will be able to accurately check mag levels above 1400 so you have to keep adding reagent or cut starting amount of tank water in half.

Firewater, can you elaborate for me. Reagent? Or cut starting levels of water? Thx

Whichever test kit you use for checking your mag levels once you start dosing. I used a Red Sea mag kit. I had to either use half the amount of suggested tank water to start kit or continue adding the reagent(test solution) above what was recommended.

Clownfitch, did you have trouble with reading mag levels? How did you exactly do it?

Just like John suggested with half of the sea water. I have a red sea pro test kit.

Once you get to your target mag level give it a day or two holding steady. You should start to notice the bright green of the bryopsis fade to a full grey and then it starts disappearing. You can use a siphon to start removing some of it if you want. Just remember to raise the mag level again after the water change.

There is something "special" in the kent. It's not just magnesium.

Kent m has a small bit of copper in it.

But it does not cause any problems with inverts.

There was something it in that kills bryopsis that has nothing to do with mag. I think it was a Randy Holmes-Farley post. I'll see if I can find it.
