Howdy, folks!
This is the official BOD nomination thread. The purpose of this thread is for everyone to nominate a charter member whom they feel should represent this club. So, that means anyone can nominate a charter member of their choice to be considered in the voting for two openings on the board of directors.
Please, in your responses, nominate the member that you would like to see on the board. This is not a discussion or debate. If you choose to do your nomination in private, please feel free to PM me and I will make the nomination for you.
Nominees must also accept their nominations here. Once that is done, I will add them to the list if nominees.
Now, let's see how many nominations we can get!!
I'll be updating this thread with nominees as this thread progresses. We will leave this nomination period open for seven days from right now.

Allan, I think you have to be a "Charter" Member. I think that means that "Junior" Members aren't eligible?

Four times a year, for the bod meetings, can't miss more than one in a row... But I don't remember if that's just the bod meetings or the monthly meetings.

Allan, I think you have to be a "Charter" Member. I think that means that "Junior" Members aren't eligible?
I don't know, I know webmembers aren't allowed, and he's definitely not a webmember. A junior member is a chartered member who happens to be a minor... But...
Yeah, I don't know. I figured the age would be the discriminator, but it may be the status as well.

Tue, 22nd Apr 2014, 04:51 AM
I believe a junior member should have the same rights as a charter member. One is simply a designation of age. A charter member would imply a paid member and a junior member is such.
The Board meeting are quarterly and there are two left this year. One in July and the other at the fall frag swap.

It should also be noted that these positions have a remaining term ending December 31st, 2015.
Typically a board members responsibilities include participation in discussions in the directors forum. These topics usually include meeting planning and discussions regarding the clubs needs. I.E. The feedback forum vote and so on. 90% of the participation is online

It's the same cycle over and again. I don't think there's been anything significant happening lately that one could point too, over four months ago. In fact, to be remarkable we would need something in excess of nine volunteers to step up to run for a position.
But at the very least it looks as if the ugliness of the last week or two are fading away.

Ok,
I am a title attorney in the oil and gas field. I verify who owns what and review/interpret the leases between the oil company and the land owners. I also have a Masters in Business Administration because I had originally hoped to be doing transactional business law: interpreting contracts, incorporating businesses, etc, but opportunity knocked elsewhere. I have been keeping saltwater tanks since 2011. I have ran a 150 gallon mixed reef and various smaller ones in between. Currently I have a SPS only 20 long tank. What I can offer the club is my knowledge of legal jargon and contracts as they seek to implement new services as well as my experience running different tanks and the knowledge gleamed from over researching everything I've ever done or wanted to do to my tanks. At this point, I'll start to wonder and go off on tangents so...if there are questions directed my way, I'll be glad to answer them.

So I guess I need to let people know my standings in the community since I'm nominated. I'm not a lawyer. But my mom is lol. I spend more time worrying about new equipment then I do anything else. Always upgrading. Been in the reef hobby for a long time. Had a lot of great influences an the biggest being big pun aka Chris. The man has helped me at all hours anytime. His passion has influenced my own passion. Sitting in hotel rooms after work I watch brs and mr saltwater tank videos I learn anything I can. Regardless of what I know more can always be learned.i watch our community in forums and try to contribute where I can. I'm Bout as die hard as a reefer can be and actually put my tanks before me sadly. I get a choice in life my tank gets my choice. Shouldn't it be the best for them not me? That's just how I feel.

It would help the voters a lot if the Nominees are posting a short biography and what would you bring to the club.
Sure I will, being that I am fairly new to the forums and the area, I will give a little info on myself. I am a Desert Shield/ Desert Storm Vet having served in the 82nd Airborne Division as an Airborne Infantryman for 4 years after graduating high school in '88. After serving in the Army I got a job in the residential construction industry as an apprentice plumber. After a few years I got my Journeyman's license and went on to obtain my Master's license in 2001. That same year I went into business myself in the extremely competitive Austin market. 13 years later I still own the same successful business. Yes, I drive to Austin pretty much every day of the week from Floresville.
I've had aquariums since I was a little kid. I've always had a fascination with aquatic life. Along the way I would have make shift saltwater tanks stocked with critters I caught while on our family vacations at the coast as a kid. Guppy tanks, turtle tanks, crawfish tanks. I always had something "stinky" in my room. I set up my first tropical saltwater aquarium in 1996 which was an Oceanic 30 with a canister filter. I think I had it set up for about 8 months and just could not maintain a successful tank. Knowledge and technologies have come a very long way since the mid 90's. I jumped back in to the hobby about 15 months ago and now have two successful and thriving reef tanks.
While I may not have as many months or years of experience in marine husbandry as many of my peers here on maast do, I do have an overwhelming passion ( if not addiction) to the hobby. Through my experiences and research I have gained a wealth of knowledge which will continue to expand with more experience, and research.
Please keep in mind that I did not nominate myself while you are reading all of this. I was chosen by a reputable member of the forum whom I have had the privilege to get to know over the last 8 months. After being nominated and thinking it over I felt I did have some things to offer the club. A very keen business sense, the ability to make decisions under pretty much any given scenario, the ability to work with and lead an extremely diverse group of people, and of course as us all, a passion for the hobby.
In closing, I realize most of you don't know me from Tom but wouldn't that make me a much less biased candidate than someone who has been here for years? Yes, I believe it would. I think this club needs some "fresh blood" and I have just that to offer.
Thank you MAAST for giving me the platform to formerly introduce myself and thanks again to Rob and Zach for the nomination.

Thank you Allan and Tiphanie for recommending me. I will accept the nomination. I don't know a lot of y'all but have had the privilege of meeting a lot of y'all over the years. I've been a member since 2010 and have been keeping saltwater tanks since 2008. I started with my first saltwater tank in Austin. It was a 29 gallon biocube. I've learned a lot over the years and have lost fish and corals while trying to learn everything. I still have the first fish I ever bought. It's a clown fish that's now part of a paired pair I have in my 90 gallon reef at home. Since the first biocube I have owned two 14 gallon biocubes another 29 gallon biocube (which is at work) and my current 90 gallon reef tank (which is to small :)). I love this hobby a lot and spend a lot of my time on MAAST both at home and at work. I have a beautiful wife and 1 year old beautiful girl who also loves watching the fish tank. I want to watch this hobby grow as much as possible and would like the chance to help out with what ever I can.
