What are some of the best things to use for sifting the sand bed? I'm looking to buy a few things to help turn the sand bed. What do you guys have in your tank?

I already have an MP40. Thinking I need another one though. Does the dimond goby kick up a lot of sand? Not worried about flipping things over becuase there's not a lot of small stuff on the sand bed.

We have always kept a diamond goby to keep the sand sifted and clean, best fish for it by far. We also have 5-10 nassarius snails. And have kept a sand sifting starfish the entire six years this tank has been up - even made it through the big crash.

Should I worry about getting a dimond goby if I haven't had anything like that sifting the sand before? Tanks been running a almost 2 years. When I move the sand it clouds up a little.

That might not be the best idea that's me never mess with my sand bed

Whatever that butt-ugly goby is that I got from Allan is insane. I've NEVER had a fish that did such a good job of moving sand around. He keeps our 215 sand turned over perfectly.

That's his problem his sand bed has not been touched in 2 years that little guy will dig it up and release all sorts of goodies that might be pretty bad

I have snails that have turned it up a little but not a lot. I guess I could vacume it when I do a water change to get some stuff out.

+1 on a diamond goby. Versus other gobies they don't take a mouthful of sand and swim up coating everything like dragon gobies do. We have had a sand sifting star for years. Our nassarious snails also help, but we keep them well fed.

I didt mean you had a problem with your sand bed just the little guy might dig to deep to the bad stuff

I know you didn't mean that.

I think what I have is a dragon goby. He's a beast. But yes, sand ends up on rocks.

I have a diamond goby and he is a beast at sifting though my sand bed. And he doesn't go up and start a snow storm either. Really cool to watch.

I think the Dragon goby is the one that swims and drops his sand and the damond goby sits on his 2 little front fins and eats through his sand could be wrong tho there both little neat guys

Yes, Bill. The goby from Allan was a dragon goby or an engineer goby.

I have chosen a diamond goby as my arch nemesis. He keeps the sand super Duper clean. And he doesn't pick it up and carry it over all the coral. She is a tremendously helpful addition to the tank. He is only my arch nemesis because we have different views on how the sand should look in the tank. I.E., mountains here and there.
