its really hard to take pics with the macro lens by hand.... I need to rig something to suspend the camera over the tank, without blocking too much light..... Out of 100 or so pics these were the only ones that came out decent.... but nothing Im happy about...

this one really sucks, but hoping to get a better shot soon..... you can't grab the colors from the sides of the tank.

Ya well i had a little crash around the time i swapped to the vegas. Started with cyano then alot of stuffed croaked on me.. I have a few chalices and sps that made it but they were almost white.... Even the sunset monti is almost bounced back.... You can see the plug it was on and how its started to recover it.....

I dont blame the vegas but i cleaned my fuge and took out the grape caulpera and chaeto that was in there.. I also tried to cut back on the amount of water in my water change..... I think all played a factor in the outcome......

But its still bouncing back...

I was doing a 32 gallon brute every 2 weeks....... then I thought "hey a 20 gallon every week is easier" nombre!!!! I started slacking and 20 gallons every 2 weeks apparently wasn't enough.... and then I started getting Cyano.... and it went down hill from there...

Also saw TROY V's xenia fuge and thought it looked cool... so I tried to mimic it..... lol maybe I should of took a slower approach....

either way I'm back at 32 gallons every 2 weeks and tank is happy...

I ripped off gfo and stopped using carbon too..... back to the basics and tank is happy...

Were you getting cyano while the Xenia was dying? I ask because I've had bad cyano outbreaks while Xenia died. I'm not sure if it's related or not.

Awesome pics man! Your color is amazing on those sticks. I haven't been able to get that deep/true of purple on my purple SPS. All other colors are good though.

What are you doing for filtration?

Thanks...

What it was is, I wanted a xenia fuge and removed all my cheato and caulpera that had been flourishing down there to place a frag of xenia.....

Idk what i was thinking, and thats when cyano started showing up.... Im sure my nitrates went through the roof at that point, shocking and killing a lot of my nice stuff.... I never tested, so thats just my guess..

My xenia has since taken off in my fuge under the ai sol with a 6-8k kelvin setting.. And i placed some cheato back in and it grows really good....

Other than my xenia/cheato fuge, all i run is mesh filter socks and a CS1 skimmer.

I am far from a pro but this works for me.

Tripod!!! Is a must... I have the cheapest one (dynex) and it works for indoor stuff..

Keep lens straight with the glass... And angle will distort the image...

Turn off pumps and powerheads..

For settings:

Everything in manual!!!

Focus in manual...

Iso as low as possible! Nothing higher than 400... It will get grainy after that...

With a tripod you can use a longer shutter so more light is let in and you can keep the iso low! (Atleast i think, but works that way) you just cant have alot of movement with longer shutter..

Aperture depends on the subject, the lower setting the less the depth of field(less in focus the back ground will be) but this will also effect the amount of light let in so a little balancing between this and the shutter is needed but very easy to figure out....
It all takes a little playing around with....
I will take a shot and post the settings soon.... Lets see if it works for you....

Hope that helps...
