Hello boys and girls I have a question for you. Do you or do you not use a filter sock or filtration pad. I also would like to know why?

Personally I have done away with the filter socks and am just running my protein skimmer 24/7 and I have far less nitrates in my system. They say that if you do not pull your filtration in say a week you are actually making a nitrate factory and I really feel this is true. So anyway do you use them and tell me the benefits of why you made that choice.

I stopped using my filter socks and just use cheato for the water to run thru because the socks catches all the coral foods so it seemed like a waste of money to feed coral frenzy and have the socks catch it, I have a small skimmer that runs 24/7 and that's it

I run them sporadically. When I do I change mine weekly. Clean them in the washing machine. They do a great job of polishing the water. Whenever I have extra stuff floating around in the water column I toss them in. Also helps cut down on detritus that gets down into the sump and collects. Just my 2 cents.

I don't use them cause I feel like it traps too much beneficial stuff and I'm too lazy to clean sponges and filter socks.

I just blow around the sump with mj1200 and then siphon it oout whenever I do WC. I do use the sock with mj1200 pump and hose to siphon out algae in the DT.

I just use the mesh ones.. Dont catch it all but catches the big stuff... They dont clog either and are very easy to clean

I use two of them and change them out every weekend. No problems other than that they are a pain to change and wash...I have at least 30 of these things so I only wash when I am running low on clean ones.

I use them and change every three days and my water is polished clear! I do agree that they can become nitrate factories if left to decay in the water column
