Hey guys!! I picked up this Yuma on Monday and about 15 minutes after being in the tank it let off a stream of mucus from its mouth (which is always wide open). Since then it periodically releases more mucus. Right now there is a giant glob of mucus sitting in its mouth. Im figuring its stressed out and I dont know what to do. Any advice?

Hi Chris, Not sure exactly whats going on with the Yuma, but it sure is a nice one. Looks pretty healthy to me. Ours used to expel the waste once it digested its food.. Do you direct feed? If so, maybe that is what its doing.

I haven't fed it yet. Didn't want to mess with it yet since its only been in the tank for 4 days. I heard yumas can take up to 2 weeks to adjust to new tanks. Maybe I am being over cautious. I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks for the reply

I have had the worst luck with yumas so I know what they look like when they are on the down hill slide. Unfortunately yours looks to be in that condition. You can try moving it to indirect light and very little flow and maybe it will rebound.

Usually when a coral secretes mucous from their mouth, they're either expelling waste or expelling zooxanathele (s?) . If you're not feeding it, it's most likely spitting zooxanathele which will cause it to bleach. I'd second the advice of moving it to lower flow and lower light. Also, what do you nitrates, ammonia, nitrite and phosphates look like?

Ammonia and nitrite 0.. Nitrates I have to check at the lfs cause my API kit is giving bad readings . Phosphates were showing up .25 on API .. That was two weeks ago though. All my other coral are fully open including my other Yuma so I didn't think it's a water issue .. I'll put it in the shade and keep an eye on it
