Carbon dosing

Is anyone carbon dosing ?
I'm using bio pellets on one tank but thinking of using vinegar on another. I tried vodka years ago when it first became popular. I didn't have a dosing pump so had to rely on my bad memory to dose every day.

I just run active carbon and gfo, it's worked great for me

I have questions. :)
What is the difference between gfo and carbon?
What are the benefits of running a gfo or carbon reactor?
I have heard of running a carbon reactor if there are problems with water chemistry but if you are not experiencing any problems should you still run carbon or gfo?
Does using either/ or allow you to have a higher fish population?
Please educate me..

Basically gac (granulated active carbon) help clear the water
Gfo (granulated ferric oxide) helps lower phosphates
Carbon dosing with vodka or vinegar helps lower nitrates and phosphates.

Of course there is a lot more to it, that's the basic explanation.... Or at least as I understand it

I really like them, when MACNA was in Dallas I got to sit and talk with Dr Tim for about 30 min, he sold me on them and after using them I have no complaints and my tank is always looking good.

What changes did you notice once you started using it? I'm thinking of getting a product along these lines to help break down detrius so it can get blown into the overflow.

over tank stability nitrates down and phos. also waste away kick starts bio pellets, seeds them. I've been slacking and algae has crept up in my tank so I'm back to dosing as I should. also you get cyano as pellets start working this helps keep that down and keeps it away
