These are awesome little tanks. I got one in a trade for my son a while back. I will add some pics of his set up this evening. So far the only issue we are having is creating enough surface agitation to keep film from building up. The tiny return pump just doesn't have the necessary flow rate to accomplish this at the far end of the tank. We would like to add a nano recirculation pump but I can't find one small enough not to be an eye sore. Any Spec V owners that have successfully addressed this issue?

You traded your son for a tank?!? 😎
I would look into the IM spinstream.

I did a nano in one of these for a while and used a Marineland 606 pump installed in place of the original. Increased flow quite a bit! You can also put a small heater on top of the motor, an HT10 just fits. The only issue I had with the tank was that I got tired of topping it off. If I was going to set it up again, I think I would drill it (on the backside of the filter chamber). It made a beautiful display! I can put pictures up if you'd like, but I don't want to threadjack :)

He was a little brat. Fish and coral don't talk back! I will look into the spinstream. I am also thinking about a canister filter and have the return pipe in to the open end of the tank for flow back to the drain side. Any experience with canisters? Thanks Ben.

It does take constant topping off to the point I am considering adding a jbj ATO. I have thought about moving everything out of it and drilling it and adding a 10 gallon sump I already have made from a previous set up. the tank has finally balanced out and is running smoothly so I hate to ripple the waters so to speak. Pictures are welcome!
