Would anybody know what this green bushy stuff growing rapidly from a newly purchased zoa rock? Just wonder if its good or bad and if it's something a herbivore fish would eat.

If it is, you need to remove it ASAP. Removing it yesterday would be better if it is bryopsis.

Yeah, I'd remove the entire rock. I made the mistake of not removing a frag when I had bryopsis and it required a lot of work to get things back under control.

Nice. I've read on it and seen some more pics and yep pretty sure that's what it is. :( ughh thanks y'all for the input.

Culerpa of some type. Generally the type with blades isn't as invasive as culerpa racemosa but it can be. I personally like it, but it can grow really fast under the right conditions and has the potential to go sexual.

Not 100%. It appears to be bryopsis, but could be a form of culerpa.

I agree with John. It's hard to tell. How fast does it grow? You're right though, it's probably best to remove it while you can. If it's bryopsis, you definitely want to get rid of it but even of it's culerpa, it can still be a pain once it takes hold in a tank. Culerpa also has a tendency to go sexual and pollute your tank. That's what stops a lot of people from using it in their refugium. It works really well soaking up nutrients but if it runs out, it's going to dump a bunch of stuff into your tank and it'll look like you're growing phytoplankton.

Anytime. If you do have bryopsis come back or an infestation then tech m will work depending on strain of bryopsis. Get with me if you have questions.

My sump is loaded with this! I had no idea it would do that. Man I'm glad you posted this. Anyone need some Culerpa??
