Well it's about that time to upgrade. Might be a little slow as I'm working on a few other builds for others right now and they take priority. Here is the list of components:
DIY 96x24x24 1/2" Acrylic (Might make a little thinner)
- Got an idea for a new overflow design I'm going to try out
- Center Overflow with a few dry sections to house the MP40es' and WP60's
DIY 72x20x18 3/8" Acrylic 3 Section Sump
DIY 1.5x1.5x11ga Metal Stand
- Skinned w/ Knotty Alder
DIY Knotty Alder Canopy w/ 6 Total Fans (3 pushing in/3 pulling out)
(4) 250w MH (Two Lumenmax 3, Two ROIII)
- One fixture will be swapped out with a DIY LED Radion Build, if it turns out good then all will be swapped out gradually
(2) Icecap 660's pushing T5's and VHO's for supplementation (these might be removed depending on how good the LED's turn out)
Reef Angel+ Controller (will use my ACIII in the meantime)
Jebao DC12000 for Return Pump feeding all Reactors also
Reeflo Dart w/ OM 4-way for Closed Loop
(2) MP40es
(2) Jebao WP60's
DIY Ozone Reactor
DIY 10" Calcium Reactor
DIY Media Reactor
Tank will be primarily SPS with a few softies and clams. Going to try to go as fast as I can without sacrificing the build quality. Really trying to get a CNC built as well which could REALLY speed up alot of the fabrication that I'll be doing. Stay Tuned!

Thanks guys! yea I know Ruben, I changed it to cluster instead of having them spread out, figured the other way might cause a disco effect. Hopefully I can start the tank build next week.

Well I started working on the enclosure while I wait for the additional LED's(should be here tomorrow) and my StormX Controller (which im sure USPS has lost since no status since last depart Friday)

The top will be screw down and will have two 8ups mounted to it along with the StormX controller. Still need to mount the DB15 Breakouts (still waiting on those to arrive) for a quick disconnect from the fixture to the box.

Got all the new LED's and controller in. Cut down the heatsink by 6" so I could use the wasted space for a small refugium fixture for the 7ups. Need to drill holes now to run the wires, wire them up again, and mount the optics. Then its on to building the enclosure. Added (2) NW's and (2) more RB.

Looking good. Do you have a diagram of what light color is where?
OneReef
Thu, 27th Feb 2014, 11:19 AM
It follows the Radion layout except I used CREE leds for everything except the reds and violets, the reds are phillips, the two violets on the inside are actually 4 violets in one, so a full spectrum, then the outsides are just one single UV led per star. I did add 1 (NW) and 1(RB) extra on each cluster witch sit on the inside near the inner violets. Hopefully I can get the holes drilled today and get the wiring done.

Nice build! I'm curious, I've seen a lot of led users or NR (even the most "experienced" ones) using 3 ups, is there a reason you chose not to use 3ups?

I was a total noob about a month ago when it came to LED's. After seeing Minh's tank with the Radions I thought it was perfect and that is what I went after. Figured if I went with singles and just clustered them close together I could get a better spread than the radion though while maintaining the same look. So I figured why not. I would've liked to have 3ups or such but I would have had to have some custom made and that was gonna be way too expensive. There are not alot of 3ups that I like, or some contain cyan or some other color. The radion I know works from seeing Minh's tank like I said, so I told myself I'd stay with those colors. A big plus for me also was if one ever fried or died, then I can replace just that one as opposed to a whole cluster, or trying to remove a single led from a cluster to replace. Though not likely, figured I'd rather avoid it. We'll see how it goes when I fire it up. Just hope I dont hate it :)
Here is the layout I drew up real quick in Paint:

Ah ok! I saw the three ups but I had the same issue, good to know other users felt the same. Do you have a color legend for the colors listed in the MS paint diagram?

CREE XT-E Royal Blue LED - Dark Blue
Philips Rebel ES 660nm - Red
Total Spectrum Violet UV LED - Dark Purple

Well on a crappy note, turns out my StormX arrived DOA. Ben @ Coralux is a champ though and already sent out a new one and a return postage for the DOA unit. He said he wasnt sure how it ended up DOA as they are all tested before they leave. Maybe something happened in shipping? So i'll finish wiring up the blues tonight then i'll just be waiting on the controller to test it out. Drilled holes hoping to route the wires but realized it was going to be a diaster and would keep the fan from sitting flush on the heatsink so I just ran the wires on top, looks a little messy but the optics should block some of that along with the fixture enclosure.

Love the color so far. Need to play with the StormX controller now. Waiting on my DB15 breakout boards to I can create quick disconnects from fixture to power supply box. Will start on the enclosure in the meantime.

Finally got everything in for the first fixture build. Wired up and tested with DB15 quick disconnects. Works Fantastic! Now time to finish building the enclosure and the fixture enclosure. Got the fuge LED fixture built, just need to put some finishing touches on it.
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/822/vmh1.jpg
Also got a 30 gallon Poly tank, booster pump, and vertical DI canister (both of my horizontal ones blew out I guess from going hot/cold while sitting outside). Put everything together on a piece of acrylic.

Planned on working on the tank itself but my wife wanted me to build our son some shelves(tends to give me more working time in the garage when I build something for her) :)

That'd be a ridonculous photo tube....lol. Yes I am building a Skimmer, a big cone skimmer, but this 8" diameter tube is for a Fat Daddy calcium reactor. Gonna be sweet, 1/4 cast tube, with 1/2 plates. It's gonna be robust.

Was able to route a 10" ring, man this thing is gonna be massive. Was going to use it as the base but decided to use it at the top ring, i'll make a square base to mount the pump to it as well.

Can I suggest adding feet to your stand. That way the entire metal stand is not sitting on the ground. Sure would make a difference when those "oops" moments happen and water goes to the floor. You will not be able to get all the water out from underneath the metal touching the floor.
I welded metal feet on the bottom of mine, raising the base up about 4"s. So I have only six feet resting on the ground. I painted the stand with por15 and the had it under coated. The only part that has any rust after 5 years is the parts that actually touch the floor.

I had thought about it but it's too late. All top and bottom corners are mitered so adding feet would be a little hard. I dont know if I'd trust adding tabs on the inner corners to mount feet. I'll just had a wet tray lined with water resistant vinyl to help contain any water.
