Hey guys. So it is looking like the stand that I have for my 180gal aquarium is to short. It is 24 inches and I need it to be in the 30-32" area. Can I make a base for the stand to set on and not compromise the structural integrity of the aquarium? Or do I just need to go out and make a new stand?

24" is very short IMO. I'd say to raise it that much, you have two options. Build a subframe if 2x12s on end or, as you suggested, build a new stand. Personally, I'd build a new stand. You won't have much room to work on anything in the sump with that height. Shoot, my skimmer is 24" tall. Take the equipment you'll need to service into account. Pics of the sand would help also.

My 190 had a short frame... I built a pedestal out of 2x12" boards in an almost U shape. I cut the back open on it, and the stand so that I could position a really large sump that stuck out in the back.

For me it was easier to build the platform rather than building a stand. It was heavy duty and very simple. I ended up raising the tank 15".
