So I have noticed that I may have a problem with phosphate (haven't run any water test for that). Pretty sure it is high though, because I am noticing a loss of color and brown outs on some coral. After reading articles about using Phosban and biopellets I am concerned about making the water too clean and lowering pH and oxygen levels. I need a little experience here on what my fellow aquarist are doing to lower PO4. :hypnotyized:

I'd recommend having a water tests to ensure po4 is the problem

How often are you changing water? How much? And how many gallons is your system...
Dont try and patch things up..... Problems will always remain of you do....
I have taken gfo and carbon off my system and everything happy...

How many gallons exactly do u change?
My tank was very unhappy with 20 gallon changes and bounced back with 30-35 gallon changes biweekly....
I would test your parameters first though...
If u need a reactor i have a almost new mr1..

I use rodi. I do change 20 gallons. Right now using io reef crystals I have a dual chamber mr1 only running one chamber with carbon

Okay so I just got home and tested the phosphate with an api kit. I know not the most accurate but it showing 0 on the color scale. I am running 2 razors peaking 85% blues and 70% whites. What else could be causing the browning and loss of color.

In my opinion they all seem a little lack luster but my jason fox sunset supposed to have a neon green base is now brown. My spaghetti leather has a brownish tinge to it rather than the slight neon green. Stalks on duncan has lost color and all of the new heads are not green like the ones when we first got it.

After reading about why the brown is happening and it is not due to over nutrient. I guess I am going that route. I will start ramping lights up to the 100% over the next week or so.

I'd take your water to an LFS to check phosphates, or invest in red sea or hannah kits.. also, as a charter you have access to the par meter, why not borrow that and see where your at with par?

So the par readings are in. I started off with the lights at 100% with a reading of 450 at the water about 100 at the sand. Lowered the lights and changed the programming. Today reading 825 at the water and 175 at the sand. I am thinking this may help out how ever I am breaking out in cyano and brown algae may have to tweak the program a little.
