So I'm setting up a 29 gallon biocube at work that will not have a refugium. I was wondering what your suggestions would be for the amount of rock I should put in the tank. I know some people pack rock into them and some leave a lot of swimming room. Here is a picture of what I was looking at doing. What do you think?

Personally if it was my tank, I would build up a column in the center like you have in the 2nd picture, but with more rock.

I like the idea of a column in the middle but be sure to look at it from all sides of the tank. That will insure you have good perspective of the stack.

In my opinion it depends on what type and how much coral you want to house. My cube is soft coral dominant and I really like the look of a LOADED softie tank. Mine isn't as grown out as I hope it gets to be yet but here is a pic. My rock is all against the back with a 1" gap from the back wall for flow.
