Is there anything you can do to save a fish once it hits that "I'm going to swim sideways and lay at the bottom of the tank but I'm still alive" dance?

Figure out why it is doing that. Low oxygen? Water conditions? Has it been eating? How long have you had it?

I've had it for over two months, the last couple of days he wasn't eating as much as he usually does and not being as active as normal, the water is always good, the only change lately is that I upgraded lighting from MHs to SOLS about 4 days ago, and now that I think about it that's when he started acting weird, would the light change do it?

I wouldn't think the lights would do it. I am assuming you turn your lights off at night, does he act more normal then?

If it was the skimmer you'd be able to read that in your tests...

Any chance of stray voltage?

Yea that's what I thought too, my test were all clear.... I don't think there's any stray voltage, one of my powerheads has been making noise when it start, but other than that it's all been the same as always

If it was high ammonia or nitrates or phosphates or stray voltage wouldn't that affect all the live stock?
Something similar happened to a wrasse I had. I forgot what exactly it was. But it was a bacteria or parasite that affects their float bladder( not sure of scientific explanation). My time was too late, but if that's what it is... You could try quarantining and treating with gram negative and positive antibiotics.

What brand of kits? And maybe, but I've had a wrasse that showed no signs of brooklynea,or stray voltage
. That fish was a survivor lol

I'm thinking it was a disease/parasite because it had a distended belly, they're all brand new Red Sea

What I was trying to refer to was swim bladder. There can be a couple causes. But gram negative bacteria can be one.
Does it look like its breathing heavy or gasping?
also what kind of fish?

I did put it in a separate tank so he wouldn't be stressed but didn't know how to treat it

Dr g's medicated food. I think elegant reef has it. Collection techniques could be a problem too if the fish was brought to the surface too quickly, that's on newer fish though.

I just recently lost a sailfin tang and don't know why. Everybody else is fine. He was floating around the tank sideways and upside down all over the tank and would sometimes go to the bottom then back up just floating around and having a hard time breathing. I also tested my water and everything was in check. I regularly do water changes and other fish are still happy. I am at a loss why I lost him.
