Ok I'm having some issues with my sump that I just set up. My overflow is rated for 600gph and my pump at 5ft is rated at about 400gph but my pump keeps running the chamber dry. I don't understand what the issue is.

Have any pics of the overflow/return setup..? What kind of overflow are you using?

Just starting with the basics but if your return chamber is running dry then it sounds like you need to increase the water in the sump and find that sweet spot to where it's balanced out with the display and maintaining same water level..

I think that my return chamber is too small. I have put as much water as I can into my sump without overflowing it.

you might not have enough water in sump, you need to add salt water to the normal operating level while everything is running.Your sump has 2 level of water line,( 1) normal operating level,(2) when the return pump is in the OFF position .The (2) level will be higher than the nornal level(1), but should not flood over the sump. You should set the (2) level a couple inches from the top of the sump. You also need a shutoff valve at the return pump to turn the flow down some ,to match it with the drain (overflow box).Have an extra pump and some empty buckets aside just in case you need to get some water out while you getting the correct level. Turn the return pump off/on acouple of times after you got the correct levels, that just to make sure its in working order..Hope that help

If the last picture is the return section, then you need to add another short baffel. This will serve as a bubble trap or you.

The pump is off right now and it is a couple of inches from the top.

I apologize before I made this thread I added about a gallon and a half more water to the system and didn't test it again. So after you replied I tried it and now it works fine smh 🙈but now the overflow is really loud and is pulling in a lot of air. How do I fix that?

drill a 3/16 hole above the U and glue a 1/4 tube to it, this also will help to prime later on if needed to.

Now I'm confused you want me to drill a hole into my utube? Won't that stop my siphon?

no, that wont stop your siphon, its only a 1/4, Its not only bring the noise down, but you can hook up a small pump to that tube to prime too

Did you get it working right? I can shoot you a pic of a stand pipe I made when I had a HOB overflow that made it go silent. LMK
