I want to invest in a controller pretty soon but can't decide what to get. The primary functions I want are temperature, and salinity with internet connection. I was looking at the apex systems but Idk if I should get the Jr, or lite? What do yall recommend?or is there another controller that will take care of what I want?

Apex lite, although salinity control may be slightly irrelevant unless your topping off with both fresh water and salt water to makeup for water lost from splashes/ skimmer cleanings etc.. I have the apex lite and it's 4 outlets control my heater, return, ato, and fan. Plenty for me thus far.

The RKL is a nice unit but for internet your looking at the same price as the Apex lite, and the DA's internet unit is notoriously bad.

GHL Profilux III...go big or go home! Just kidding. I actually do use this controller but there are much cheaper controllers out there that will do what you want. My advice would be to get something that is a bit overkill so that you have the option of growing into it should the need arise. How comfortable are you with setting up control logic and basic programming?

honesty if you set up your controller correctly you really don't need the net option. been using my rkl and RKE without it for years, and I own the net module. now if your running a calcium reactor or something that needs constant monitoring then yes net option is good to have. I have temp alarms and settings to help if anything goes wrong so I don't worry

Only if there were more on the market used like yours ;)

I have played with basic programming and I'm sure I could figure it out. The internet is really an extra a not necessary but would be cool to have.

I would do like randy said and get something your going to grow into..

If its a apex or reef keeper.....

I have 3 pc4s on my RK and most of the outlets(12) are used up. I like to have control of everything, otherwise whats the point of a controller in the first place....

I want to try a apex on my next build... And probably will..

Net module or internet access is cool to have but pretty much pointless unless you are constantly monitoring it like chris said... I completely forgot about it after the "cool factor" was gone...

Cant go wrong with either controller, they are a must have iMO for safety reasons.....

Some of us are out if town for work a lot... 😎

That's my reasoning.

"Unless you are constantly monitoring"

Im sure if your "out of town" you are monitoring it some.....

So yes, it does come in handy..

Dpending upon what u can afford they all seem to work alright . I have personally used apex in past and it did fine . Rke or profilux are both reliable also as I know number of folks using em . Now they even come up with option where these can controll your lights pumps dosing needs water changes webcam etc etc. Agian u have to buy several different modules on top of base unit to achieve these facilities.
I will be setting up a tank soon may go back to apex only because I have a bit of an idea how to program it . I know profilux base unit is on sale now if u buy directly from ghl na.

I have an apex and really like it. I can control virtually everything in my tank. Neptune continues to release awesome stuff for the apex. They just released an autofeeder that plugs into the apex and they're on the verge of releasing a completely new interface called fusion. I would be skeptical going with a DA controller. They don't seem to be actively updating and improving it like Neptune is and their customer service is supposed to be awful. Look them up on reefcentral.

I have an RKE without the net part... love it. Not sure how I ever managed to run a reef without it. Best three bills I ever spent. Robert came over and helped me to set it up. I've been running ever since.

I have a RKL on my biocube and a Apex on my new tank. I don't think you can wrong with either setup, but if I had to chose just one I would go with the Apex. I like being able to use my phone to start feed modes and check the tanks status when I'm not in the same room.

Thank you guys for all the feedback!! I spend a lot of time away from home cuz of school(Architecture takes away most of my life) and also work full time. :/ Now that I think about it I do need the net module so I can receive updates if anything goes wrong. As of right now,it seems like the apex is the winner. I just need to get the funds!!
