I think MAAST has had a great 2013 and in comparison to previous years the drama was rather low or at least it seemed that way. I'm sure there was plenty that was handled behind the scenes in the front office that the team did a good job of keeping it at bay.

It would be great to see things continue as is but if both Allan and John are not able to continue terms I would like to nominate Ben (Scutterborn) as president and Robert (rrasco) as Vice President. Both of them have done their fair share of volunteering for MAAST (as well as many others) this year and are almost always available to help MAAST and it's members in different areas of the club. Robert's technical experience has been key for MAAST this past year and coupled with Ben's ability to lead objectively I think they would make a solid team.

Thank you for the nomination. I've thought long and hard about this and have conversed extensively in this regard. I was concerned that I would be unable to devote the amount of time needed for this office. I have been reassured that I would be able to function in the capacity needed. I therefore accept this nomination with sincere gratitude.

As a lurking old timer, I have seen the club go through its ups and downs over the past 10+ years, and I agree with the previous statements.

I have interacted with both Ben and Robert on occasion, and believe they both are an asset to the club.

I'll agree with the above, except that if Allan would consider the Pres job, I think he would be great.

I have thought about this for a long time and have gone back and forth a couple of times. My final decision is that I will not run again for an elected position.

I have spent way too many years behind the scenes as either a moderator, committee person, bod member, vice president, and the last year as the president. I want to enjoy my time in the hobby and look forward to passing the torch on to someone who will continue to move forward.

I'm sorry to hear that, John. Thank you for everything you've done! I imagine the burden of being president is high so I completely understand not wanting to do it again. However, I do want to say that I think you've done a great job and the club is better after having you as president. On a side note, does this mean you're gonna come join us in mod hell? :P

Thanks for the nod, Bill, and some of the other passive nominations.

Got to be honest here, I'm a lazy guy. It was hard enough trying to stay motivated, a bit easier following under John's leadership because it's all his fault if things don't go right. :-)

The idea of relaxing back and joining the peanut gallery really appeals to me.

I am transitioning from the military this February and I really need to be focused on finding work. So, just in case I am not being clear, I am most definitely not even tempted in the slightest bit or interested in seeking reelection to a position as VP or P.

So does this mean you'll consider running for President this year?

Sherri,

It has always been a pleasure to work with you, and since you're the only one of us that has any true sense of fashion, you must stick around. :D I'm not sure what MAAST would do should you ever decide to vacate your position. insert shuddering emoticon here

With that said, I'd like to nominate the following:

Sherita for Vice or Pres.
Bill S for Vice or Pres. (lol, got ya)
Jack for Vice or Pres.
Troy Valentine for Vice or Pres.
Mike for Vice or Pres.

I could give numerous examples of why each would be an awesome addition to the leadership, but rather than write more than necessary, I can wait until they've accepted.

Placing my nomination for Scuttorborn- Ben for Pres. :) I really liked working with you this year. I appreciate all the hard work you put forth & I believe MAAST will benefit greatly with you as our President.

Not sure just yet on VP but I will place my nomination soon. It would certainly be nice to be on the same Board as Troy Valentine.

I'd like to toss this one out there:

I think that it's important for there to be a good transition. Most clubs/organizations have the immediate Past President remain a Board Member for the following year. John, I absolutely understand your position. But it would be great if you would consider running for a Board position.

Valid point Bill. I have thought about that. One of the things we did this year was get the whole BOD involved in committees and opinions. They all did a wonderful job. That allowed Allan and myself to help out everywhere and facilitate. I have no doubts that everything will be well handled. Also, I am not leaving the forum so I will always be around to help out.

It's a relatively easy job with a good prez. John did great, and I've little doubt that Ben would be great as well.

One of the reasons I'm not seeking reelection is due to me not feeling like I pulled my weight. I probably could have done much more, but I didn't. I'm hoping that the next does put in the effort and energy that I lacked.

Thank you so much for the nomination. I am so fortunate to see MAAST evolve from the beginning when it was just an idea, to where it is today. The collective wisdom generated through this sight is inspiring. We have done a real service to the hobby. I've had the pleasure of meeting so many of you over the years that it has enriched my life, and I'm not sure I would be the same person without it. Recently I've been thinking.... After almost 20 years at this, I don't think I keep an aquarium for the hobby, I think I keep it because of the friends I have made, and the new friends I am going to meet. With that said if I was to take on a more involved role with MAAST out of respect for where the sight has been and where it is going I feel at this time I couldn't give the necessary attention it needs. I have a wife and 3 little children that need my limited free time. I am not closing the door forever just for right now. I wish the future Pres/VP the best for this great organization.

Thanks for the nomination for pres/vp, but I need to decline. While Kristy and I are still here to support MAAST, I think it needs to go to someone else who can commit more time and energy to the tasks and challenges the position requires. To that end, I support Ben's nomination. I think he will do a great job.

A little about myself

I'm a crane operator. I tend to stay rather busy. I've been in the SW hobby since January of 2012. I've had FW tanks for many years.

I've found a community here that helps to promote an ecological friendship that I can identify with. I look forward to the future of MAAST and am glad to be a part of it.

I am also not very long winded and straight to the point. As is evident in this bio. 😃

Each step of the way has been great, Since then 4.5 of those years have been spent on the board as a Director, Secretary a few times lol and VP. It was awesome serving with Hobogato, Ping, Troy, Sherri & Bill Streep. These select few are only a handful of the founders of this club.

I am grateful to be part of this club that has many members with the same interests as I. With that said, Thank you for allowing me to be an important part of MAAST all these years, I look forward to the future and the great things that lie ahead in the years to come.

A little about me...

I'm Robert. I work in IT. I play with servers all day. I manage everything from Windows operating systems and domains, phone systems, access control, security, and surveillance systems to GPS and mobile devices. I also get to play with CNC stuff from time to time. Anything tech related or that my company needs to implement. I like to build stuff. Aquarium stands that break tanks. LED fixtures that burn corals. Anything I can build, I'm liable to try. Did I mention I'm a software engineer? That's really my passion, software. Most of my experience is with web development on that front, but more recently getting into microelectronics and allowing me to write code for them...has been a real eye opener and a dream for me. Now that I'm building stuff for my reef...even better. My two favorite things, technology and aquariums. Well, there is hockey, but let's not talk about that right now.

To acquire knowledge, one must study; but to acquire wisdom, one must observe.
