Did you use all new stuff for the 180?? Sand, water, rock? A tang would be the last fish I put in if I didn't know for sure my tank was cycled...

all the sand all the LR is being moved from the other tanks. Look at it as a big sw change.
Hopefully not to bad of a cycle.

Regardless of the intensity, a cycle is a cycle. And we all know tangs are some of the more sensitive fish. Just be cautious, even a healthy tang can make a turn from the worst. Stress occurs at every step of a tank transfer.

Thanks for the concern. This post was to try and help some tangs get into a bigger tank and not buy any from the stores that were caught and shipped. Figured it was a good opportunity for someone and try to save some tangs.
Valid concern on cycle and noted for sure.

That's exactly my point. If they have already outgrown their current tank they could potentially already be stressed from not enough swimming space. And the stress involved in catching the fish, transporting, and then on top of all that, putting him in a tank that hasn't cycled.

I would think the fish would be better off in its current conditions until you know your tank is 100%
