I tried searching the site on someone or a discussion that is about using rain water. It rains here in Hawaii every night basically. If i kept the collection surface clean, would it be possible to use rain water for SW tanks?
And second question. Has anyone used this LED for Macro algae? I know it wont do corals, or well enough. But curious about tossing it under the tank in the fuge.

Any input on either topics is appreciated.

Be careful about collecting rain water, it is illegal in many states. Not sure about Hawaii?

Alton, I thought you were kidding... then I found this... http://beforeitsnews.com/politics/2013/04/collecting-rainwater-now-illegal-in-many-states-2513766.html
I'd probably be one of the jacks that tried to sue the state of CA for littering, every time it rained. If you want to own something, own it all the way.

I've done some pretty extensive testing on rainwater. TDS usually runs 5-10ppm after the initial rain.

I've seen quite a few people using these for ATS. If it's good for that it should be just as good for most macro. Plus, they're IP65.

Thanks for the input. The fact that they are going after people for collecting rainwater is ridiculous. Government has gone lost it's mind. Appreciate the links guys. Especially about Hawaii's rules on the subject.
I have wanted to just go an collect water right from the ocean. The main issue is there is no where i can back my truck up to and drop a hose in the water and get "clean" water. I hauled a lot of water in buckets and that is an butt kicker. I don't want to do that for 20 gallons monthly. Salt isn't too horrible. They only offer instant ocean and reef crystals at most stores here cause not a huge demand for it here. Large FW following here over SW. I have to look into the TDS here. We have VOG in the air here and that may play a role in it as well. Forgot about that until my roommate mentioned it when i was talking about collecting rainwater. So that plan may get scratched anyways.
Appreciate the link Robert. That is a pretty cool little light. I may have to snag one for my sump area. Grow macro like a champ ha ha. Appreciate the feed back guys.
