Ok, one of the reasons I chose an orchid dotty is because they are not supposed to be aggressive. At least that's what I read. But now I have lost 3 fish. First, the algae blenny. He got real skinny, real quick with plenty to eat in the tank. Then a b/g chromis looks like he got his butt kicked with a big red mark on his side. Then today, I walk over to stare at my tank and I find my remaining b/g laying on my table lookin like jerky. The lil guy just ate. And danced for it too. Now Im starting to wonder if my orchid dotty is behind it. He has showed some aggression to all of the fish at some point but it was very rare that I would see it. I wanna put one of my security cameras on my tank now. Just to see what this dude is doing during the day when everyone is gone. One thing I know he is doing is bringing sand out from under his rock. Other than that, he keeps to himself. He is beautiful. Got him from Mr Cob, who was great, but now he may find himself on the for sale forum. Grrrr.

I have two in my 300 and 2 in my 125(Mr. Cob). None have ever shown aggression. All 4 are about 2"+. I had one years ago (Alamo Aquatics) and he was not aggressive, not to say you may have a mean one? I did have an issue with a Neon Dotty Back once that plucked the eyes out of three cleaner shrimps before I figured out what was going on.

I got one that chasses everyone in my tank and picks on my staryeyed blenny. They fought again today. Whats the best way to catch him.

There are two species of purple dottyback, the Orchid and the Strawberry dottyback. Strawberry is very agressive, looks very similar to Orchid but have mostly clear tail fins instead of purple fins like Orchid. If you post a picture, I will be able to ID them for you.
I have had many Orchid dottyback (5+) never have agression problem with them.

get some good ones and get some bad ones, I had one that did fine with the tangs but years later I had another that would bite fish in half, great looking fish but they are aggressive
edit we do have a royal gramma and has that nice purple color and it for sure is a great fish
