View Full Version : Do you need to feed your coral?

I just wanted to see what everybody, if anybody, feeds their coral. There are a lot of coral foods on the market. If you feed, how do you feed? Do you feel that it's necessary? Or do you just like to let your expensive fancy lights provide the photosynthesis that they need?

Subbed. I'd like to hear what people feed too.

I feed Rods original, PhytoFeast, PE Mysis, AquaVitro Fuel, Kent Zooplex, and Fauna Marine Ultra LPS pellets. I feel like I don't feed enough though.

mixed in with the frozen food given to the tank twice a day:

rotifers, cyclops, [some brand cant remember] coral food mix (contains phyto), oyster feast

not sure if this is necessary for all corals, but my tank has a few nps corals that probably need it.

also feed two day old enriched live brine daily for the corals that like larger food, like sun coral, dendros, duncans, chalices, acans

I think it depends on the coral. Most LPS like the be fed. I'm currently feeding oyster feast every other day and I've been using zeovit amino acids. About once a week I feed my dendros and other LPS either coral frenzy, mysis or Larry's. With that said, I've read a lot of people that say fish poo is the best coral food.

I dont feed mainly because I have a 14 gallon biocube with no fish and do a 2gal water change every Sunday. When I had my 125g I target fed rod food with a mix of brine and mysis with no flow. Fed fish the same thing and also slow sinking pellet food. Only fed every other day.

Are you culturing the artemia?

This is what I feed mine.

I mix it up on what foods get fed. The majority of the time I let the lights do the work. Usually about once a week the coral will get a nice treat! All of the items pictured have done wonders for my coral. The Continuum products are great. It's technically a Kent Marine product that the Kent guy started up not too long ago. Been using them since they came on the market and I really like them. I havent found them anywhere in town, so I order it online. The ATM products work super great. The best one is the microplankton and mysis. Not sure if this product is still sticking around. Havent seen it available hardly anywhere now. The others are to feed the fishes and eel, but the corals open up when that food is in the water. I just started using reef-roids with good results.

I wonder if Petco carries any of that ATM stuff? They are teamed up and stuff.

I rarely feed. When I do, it's usually phyto, reef roids, or coral frenzy.
